Getaway 1 was brilliant simply because of it's realistic graphics in comparison to grand theft auto. Plus licensed cars and lots of swearing...it was a fun game...and impressive, technically.

    Even had recharging health!

But yeah, controls were clunky....did have a cover system, though.

/realises the getaway had a lot going for it.

I liked the fact that the "London" in the game was actually vaguely recognisable. Not a bad achievement.

I couldn't distract myself from the fact that the main character had obviously beshitted his undercrackers and was trying to jog off the resultant stickiness most of the time though.

    glol!

It's so true, the second i switched it on my mate was like, "why does your character look like he's had a bad case of the shits?"

Oh well, looks like this will never happen then. A pity.

Still, there's always Mafia 2 - which looks rather sexual as well.

Peej - doesn't everything look sexual to you?

I liked the Getaway. Having no onscreen info was quite a brave move, although it did mean you had no idea how much ammo you had left, but it was real "On Site Procurement", so if you grab someone else's gun in the middle of a firefight you wouldn't know how much ammo you had.

I was also pleasantly surprised when I though I'd completed the game and discovered I now got to play through an alternate scenario as a copper.

I also liked the fact that NPCs slagged off the Transit van you were forced to use in one of the missions, because Ford had pulled out of allowing them to use Capris in the game fearing a tabloid backlash against the game.

I never bought Black Monday though. I'm quite tempted too now.

Shame, I quite liked the idea of a free roaming detective game. The ones I've played haven't quite gotten it right though, or been free roaming (call of cthulu, condemned).

I've been hearing all kinds of rumours about the project with programmers dropping away from the company as soon as they've been able.

Also, the Director, McNamara or whatever his name is seems to think any programmer can be replaced within two weeks. The good thing is that they've been hiring mostly senior programmers... but to think that a senior can then be replaced within two weeks...

    Yeah.
    Ah. Bugger. Oh well.

It's an intriguing concept but even before the huge delay it already had a pretty decent chance of shitness given that the guy who did The Getaway was involved. Hopefully he's learned a few lessons since then.

Like how to make a main character who doesn't look like he's shit himself when he's running, for instance. :-D

To be honest, even if it's mediocre I'll still buy it. Just for the concept, setting and style

It’s the kind of game I’ll be forgiving of if it turns out to be a “7” or thereabouts, but these things often turn out to be real turds sadly.

Hopefully it will be the ‘Stalker’ type of ‘vapourware becomes reality’ game.

But Stalker ended up as a shell of what it was originally supposed to be.

Well, ludicrously ambitious games generally do, but at least it was still a fantastic game.

PC games can get mods though. If this is shit, it will remain shit forever.

That art is frankly diabolical. It'd better have been drawn by the mag's work-experience kid and not come from the game itself.

Yeah. It's in line with the old teaser trailer(s) though, I am afraid.

All this time in development and they don't even have a standby set of pretty renders or art work to throw at magazines and websites when they ask for them? After all these years they should have concept art coming out of their ears.

It could mean nothing, or alternately it could be very worrying.

I just hope they execute the story with some style. For example, Ive got this growing habit of losing complete grasp of the story if the intro doesnt grab me. GTA 4 made no sense to me after a while. The same has happened to me for Assassins Creed.

Film noir plots can get pretty convoluted so I hope this will be easy to follow but with a good amount of depth.

Conceptually kinda similar as well. You start as a beat cop and work your way up to homicide detective
