The Vice City 'V-Rock' CD has been in my little portable CD player for over a year now. I just never get bored of listening to a bit of Judas Priest and Ozzy on the bus. :p

I've decided that I actually need a little more 'variation' so I've started to pick up a few new CDs.

AC/DC, Van Halen and Twisted Sister are all ready to go...but what other albums should I look out for?

Preferably something with loud drums, catchy riffs and overly-long guitar solos.

Oh, and PUH-LEASE...don't mention The Darkness.

NOOOOOO! My girlfriend's mother is constantly playing that song. I think it's because she's Norwegian and Europe are the only band to ever 'make it' from Norway (well...not including A-Ha). ;)

For Poodle-Hair rock it has to be Def Leppard, doesn't it? Or Guns n Roses maybe? Or Joan Jett?

Jesus, that's some bad music right there.

Another vote here for Def Leppard, Hysteria was stuffed to the brim with poodle-rock anthems.

    "Paging Eviltobz"

"Eviltobz please report to thread immediately"

    80's hair rock...

    Van Halen - Van Halen

Aerosmith - Rocks or Toys In The Attic (may not technically be 80's, more late 70's but it doesn't matter)

    David Lee Roth - Skyscraper

Def Leppard - Pyromania and Hysteria

AC/DC - Back In Black. Not 'hair' metal, but indispensible

    G'n'R - Appetite for Destruction

Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet, and maybe New Jersey

    Lita Ford - Lita

    DOKKEN FT-ULTIMATE-W!

uhh... yeah. Dokken's "It's Not Love" I think will satisfy all your need for 80s hair metal by itself.

Also... Europe, Kansas, Kiss, Van Halen, ... yeah. Not much else comes to mind, although my friend Jack and I listen to so much 80s hair metal it's unbelievable we still possess our sanity...

    mebbe metallica too?

ed: That one song, "Escape From The City", off Sonic Adventure 2? :D

How about something on the grungy side of Metal? Okay; they're pretty much early nineties, but Alice In Chains.

Grunge is an affront to everything that hair metal stands for. Shoe-gazing scruffy whiny basts the lot of them.

    Kids, just say NO.

Oh, sorry - hair metal. I thought it said metal - my mistake.

Grunge is a great form of music in my opinion. If I hadn't had people like Layne Staley, Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain writing the songs they did - I would have probably killed myself. I never felt alone with my disorder because of their music. I still don't despite the fact that two of the above eventually killed themselves.

+1. Absolute classics of the New Way of the British Heavy Metal, though I would only recommend their 2 albums: Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm of the Law. Do not forget Motorhead (Ace of Spades is, well, ace).

Fantastic album... though as it was released in 1990 wouldn't that make it 90s hair metal? :D

Saxon (You can get some of their albums doubled up at the mo - Wheels of Steel with Denim and Leather, I think) had some good stuff in the 80s... and there were some cracking albums by Iron Maiden, Helloween (Keeper of the Seven Keys Parts 1 + 2).

As for proper airy-fairy glam-hair-metal, I've not anything to recommend 'cos I always hated Poison and Cinderella and stuff like that for being too wussy.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

    ACDC - hair metal? WTF!

    This thread is rubbish!

Heh. Well it doesn't have to be solely 'hair' metal. Anyway, AC/DC have 'long hair'...so they qualify (and they're just too darn good to leave out). :p
