    Kinda inspired by an off the cuff comment in the Source thread..

    What's your favourite sauce for the following:

    1) Pasta
    2) Chips
    3) Fish

    In order..

    1) Smooth wine and mushroom sauce for pasta
    2) HP Sauce for chips (nothing better!)
    3) Home made tartare sauce for fish

    1) anything with meat and cheese, I like an artery hardening pasta sauce
    2) Maggi Sweet Chili Tomato Sauce
    3) Depends on the fish. Battered fish - tartare (just ate this for lunch, bloody lovely). Posh fish - probably lemon / butter / white wine. Again, depends. I love fish curry too.

    I spent freakin' ages making a smokey sausage sauce for some bangers around bonfire night last year. Chilis, peppers, onions, soy, honey, garlic, sherry and whole bunch of other crap.

    Mouse tries some of it and said "BBQ sauce, nice." NO!

    1) Carbonara
    2) Tomato and only tomato. Anyone putting mayo or salad cream on chips
    should be shot.
    3) Seafood sauce on prawns is nice.

    In order..

    1) I'm a sucker for tomato based sauce on Pasta, but not just any old shit, I absolutley love Bertolli tomato and basil.

    2) HP's all good. I'm also very fond of Nando's Peri Peri barbaque. Oh and Heinz Ketchup obviously. Oh and there's this chilli sauce you can get, I forget the brand, comes in a large bottle with yellow labels, thats stuff is lovely.

    Edit - YES ! Cheers Smoothpete, Its Maggi, thats the stuff !

    3) Tartare definaley, although i've never tried making it myself. Depends what the fish is really, having Tuna steaks drizzled with lemon tonight, that works very nicely :)

    1) all sorts of stuff
    2) mint, it works, try it. I was unconvinced but have seen the light.
    3) don't eat fish, which is probably just as well given today's headlines!

    I'm partial to HP's chili sauce for adding to most things instead of brown/ketchup, it's rather good.

    This space left intentionally blank.

    1) Pesto
    2) Today it's Heinz' Mexican Chilli Sauce
    3) Fish doesn't get sauce unless you count vinegar if I'm having Cod & Chips from the chippy.

    2) Can ONLY be tomato
    3) I like fresh fish without sauce, but tartare with battered stuff.

    I'm no stinkin' veggie. I'm allergic to meat protein.

    I've absolutely no idea why fish doesn't affect me but I am glad it doesn't otherwise by now I'd be a gibbering wreck.

    Oi I resemble that remark! You can't seriously put brown sauce on a bacon sarnie, no way! Has to be RED RED RED.

    Oh god, even on the rubbish veggie equivalent it abso-fucking-lutely has to be brown sauce, Even the cheap "Daddies" stuff.

    1. Put the sugar and enough vinegar to dissolve the sugar into a pan, add the chopped chillies and turn the heat on.

    3. Add the tomato juice, lime juice, lime rind and olives. Add salt and chilli powder to taste.
    4. Reduce until the mixture is quite firm.
    5. Remove the lime rind, cool the mixture and store it.

    Nando's garlic piri sauce all over everything evar.

    Edit: And putting brown sauce on bacon is wrong - all you can taste is brown sauce! A little ketchup goes much better. Brown sauce is for sausages, and I won't hear any different.

    1) Any decent homemade/restaurant sauce, jars etc FTL.
    2) Peptang: tasty chilli sauce my brother brings me from Kenya.
    3) Depends on fish, but Peptang chilli is surprisingly good on most.
