The extended 50 minute one on Sunday was excellent. I don't usually like Russell Brand, but he raised a few chuckles.

Registered 7 years agoI love Russel Brand, and of course Charlie Brooker, but it somehow didn't work, which was disappointing as I couldn't have asked for a better set up. -
I do sort of agree, but only from one side. Brooker didn't seem to do much. Paul Merton did his usual "I'm trying to think of something hilarious to say" face throughout most of the show.
It was pretty much Brand, Jack Dee and Hislop who carried the show. -

Yeah I found this too. Saw him on the Royal Variety Performance and wanted him to spontaneously combust, though.

I was the opposite. I quite liked him before, then I saw him on HIGNFY and thought he came across as a bit of a twat.Gremmi wrote:

Registered 8 years agoTerrible episode last night/tonight. :/ I wish they'd do the show properly, rather than trying to get laughs from the guest presenter fumbling their lines. I found it excruciatingly embarrassing to watch at times, and not in the good way. -

Registered 8 years agoWill Self has said he'd never return to the show again, another one to add to the list.
Self, one of the most regular guests on HIGNFY, said that he would not appear on the show again as well. He said, "I'm afraid that without the reality element, the programme has become just like any other pseudo-panel contest, where funny fellows sit behind desks cracking jokes. Moreover, in the post-Hutton era, the BBC seems to have lost its bottle so far as edgy satire is concerned: the sharpest crack I made all evening — and the one that received the most audience laughter — was cut for transmission."
Here
Shame, as he's usually really good. Bit disappointed with the way the show is heading, really. :/ -

They seem to have cut down on the crappy youtube vids this series, which is a start. -

Registered 8 years agoI pretty much agree with him though. They should just get a regular presenter, and get back to discussing the news rather than Richard Madeley's tie. -
That was one of the funniest episodes I've ever seen. Brian Blessed is awesome.

Registered 9 years agoBrian was completely bonkers and the show was all the better for it. Doubt I could put up with him if they made him a regular presenter though. Not that they will, mind.
Anne Widdicombe was truly awful a few weeks back.

Registered 8 years agoYeah I saw it on iplayer, brilliant episode. -
It was total panto the whole way through (I'd expect little else with Blessed involved), and absolutely hilarious.
Also did anyone else think Hislop was sitting there wondering how the show has ended up where it has? -

The new format is starting to get very tired now. Every now and then it'll throw up a funny one like that, but for the most part it has the air of a aimless, neutered show. -

Registered 8 years agoI can't believe anyone thinks the new episode was good. The show has sunk so far, it's completely lost sight of the show it's supposed to be. Blessed was a fucking annoying idiot and the show has completely lost the plot and isn't funny any more. -

For those that don't live in the UK, and for when iPlayer takes it down, I've uploaded the uncensored and extended Have I Got A Bit More News For You with Brian Blessed on youtube.

It was the funniest thing I've watched in a very very very long time. A close second is the recent South Park episode "Over-logging" - what happens when South Park has no Internet (we've all been there).
