That's apparently bollocks but the "transcript" is hilarious.

As memory serves at the time angus got fired he was earning around 50k a show and the makers were already looking for a good reason to get rid of him.

But that said he was very good at presenting the show and while having guest presenters adds an interesting dynamic to the show they are nowhere near as good as angus was at it before all the coke and whores came out.

And he was caught out twice.

Once looks accidental, twice looks like carelessness...

And he's been pretty shit at hosting everything else he's tried to do since. The coke and whores isn't the reason he's barely on TV these days.

Kirsty Young and Alexander Armstrong are pretty good hosts when they're on the show, wouldn't mind one of them getting the job permanently.

I got them from thebox.bz, a site for UK TV progs.

I have a copy of every single episode of NIGNFY. It started 28/09/90. Guests were Sandi Tostvig and Kate Saunders. Watching em is almost educational, a journey through modern UK history. :)

And yes, the News Quiz is still going, and is often funnier these days. Though slightly more 'twee'..

Only a couple of weeks late.

The News Quiz is utter shit these days. I'm by no means a tory, but it's so blatantly left wing it's ridiculous. Also Jeremy Hardy is so unfunny it's not funny. Literally.

Yeah Hardy is quite a lefty, but then Hislop is a reactionary small c conservative. Not that it makes it any better or worse, but Hislop drags his own views in to the show, often not even making comedy out of it. His pro royal rant on the last episode was a case in point. He was just using the show as a personal soap box. At least Hardy does make an attempt at comedy and actually has a punchline.

I disagree. Sandi Tostvig and Jeremy Hardy are hardly the bastion of the hard left. If anything, Hardy offers himself up as a caricature of the soft MC guardianista 'liberal left' these days, with a tendency to rant on about MC issues. Whether you find him funny or not is a matter of opinion. (I find him hit and miss - his recent rant about class differences in parenting was hilarious I thought, though at other times yes, he does make me wince). If you want a consistently unfunny lefty to throw stones at, go to Mark Thomas..
Back on topic, Mark Thomas also appeared in a very early episode of HIGNFY, (91/2 maybe), wearing a Nirvana T Shirt I think. His first joke was about women wearing white clothes whilst on their periods, as I recall (ho ho)...

Was it Jeremy Hardy who did the Chrustmas Rant? That was ace. I do agree the News Quiz is more hit and miss these days, but at least there's no Mitch fucking Benn!

Tonight's is very difficult to watch. Be amazed if they don't get some slack for making jokes about paedophilia and 9/11.

Yeah, the jokes were dark as I've ever seen on HIGNFY. Hilarious though.

That joke about Abu Hamza being flown into a building was a bit much. The stuff about Saville though, that was all well & good.

It was a great episode, but as close to the bone I've ever seen the program be.

Even the presenters looked like they felt awkward a few times and there was a very audible intake of breath from the audience more than once.

More than anything the 9/11 joke just wasn't very funny.

Still the discussion about Saville was really interesting.

Completely agree about the man, but to draw on the events of 9/11 for the purpose of a joke? The silence from the audience matched my reaction. I won't be surprised if I hear that got some complaints.

Even Ian Hislop looked uncomfortable at that joke, which says a lot considering he gave the go-ahead to this cover.

I laughed at the Abu Hamza joke. Bit weird having Clare Balding telling it. If you had Frankie Boyle say it on Mock the Week then the audience would probably laugh, cause you expect it from him, and it's his responsibility. It made it extra uncomfortable with Clare Balding seeing as she's just reading it off the autocue. Really glad they kept it in though.

The Savile stuff was strange too. BBC must surely shoulder some responsibility here, yet they all went on the offensive over the tabloids.

Series has been good so far, but tonight has been awful. Roger's the oldest person ever to appear on the show (bless 'im), but you have to draw the line somewhere..

I'm a proud owner of every single episode of this: mid 90's with Angus in charge were probably the best.

First few episodes, Thatcher was still PM.. :0
