Because he did a fuckload of coke and whores, became the news rather than speaking about it and was roundly hated by merton and hislop.

Registered 8 years agoAs memory serves at the time angus got fired he was earning around £50k a show and the makers were already looking for a good reason to get rid of him.
But that said he was very good at presenting the show and while having guest presenters adds an interesting dynamic to the show they are nowhere near as good as angus was at it before all the coke and whores came out."If we hit that bullseye the rest of the dominoes will fall like a a house of cards, checkmate." And he's been pretty shit at hosting everything else he's tried to do since. The coke and whores isn't the reason he's barely on TV these days.

I got them from thebox.bz, a site for UK TV progs.
Is there absolutely anyway I can watch certain old episodes? From what I've tried, both legitimate methods, and piracy have failed me. I really want to see the episode 9 from series 32 in which Boris was the host but for the life of me I can't seem to get it anywhere.
Superb site, thank you! -

And yes, the News Quiz is still going, and is often funnier these days. Though slightly more 'twee'..

The News Quiz is utter shit these days. I'm by no means a tory, but it's so blatantly left wing it's ridiculous. Also Jeremy Hardy is so unfunny it's not funny. Literally. -

Registered 8 years agoYeah Hardy is quite a lefty, but then Hislop is a reactionary small c conservative. Not that it makes it any better or worse, but Hislop drags his own views in to the show, often not even making comedy out of it. His pro royal rant on the last episode was a case in point. He was just using the show as a personal soap box. At least Hardy does make an attempt at comedy and actually has a punchline. Thanks for expressing interest in my signature!

I disagree. Sandi Tostvig and Jeremy Hardy are hardly the bastion of the hard left. If anything, Hardy offers himself up as a caricature of the soft MC guardianista 'liberal left' these days, with a tendency to rant on about MC issues. Whether you find him funny or not is a matter of opinion. (I find him hit and miss - his recent rant about class differences in parenting was hilarious I thought, though at other times yes, he does make me wince). If you want a consistently unfunny lefty to throw stones at, go to Mark Thomas..Greggywocky... wrote:

Back on topic, Mark Thomas also appeared in a very early episode of HIGNFY, (91/2 maybe), wearing a Nirvana T Shirt I think. His first joke was about women wearing white clothes whilst on their periods, as I recall (ho ho)...

Completely agree about the man, but to draw on the events of 9/11 for the purpose of a joke? The silence from the audience matched my reaction. I won't be surprised if I hear that got some complaints.

Registered 8 years agoI laughed at the Abu Hamza joke. Bit weird having Clare Balding telling it. If you had Frankie Boyle say it on Mock the Week then the audience would probably laugh, cause you expect it from him, and it's his responsibility. It made it extra uncomfortable with Clare Balding seeing as she's just reading it off the autocue. Really glad they kept it in though.
The Savile stuff was strange too. BBC must surely shoulder some responsibility here, yet they all went on the offensive over the tabloids. -
Series has been good so far, but tonight has been awful. Roger's the oldest person ever to appear on the show (bless 'im), but you have to draw the line somewhere..
I'm a proud owner of every single episode of this: mid 90's with Angus in charge were probably the best.
First few episodes, Thatcher was still PM.. :0 -
