The multiplayer is like crack,i know i shouldn't play it,i know its going to wind me up with the lag deaths and what not but i cant help myself.I rage like a mofo at an unfair death vowing never to play again and hour later i'm raging at another unfair death.Ad nauseam.

The multiplayer is atrocious. Have you not played anything else multiplayer ever before?
  • Deleted user 25 June 2012 23:43:21
I think you want ad infinitum, not ad nauseum.

Ad nauseam is a Latin term used to describe something unpleasurable which has continued "to [the point of] nausea

    Smart arse.

I know exactly what it means; you aren't doing it to the point of hating it, you're returning to something you hate repeatedly.

wow, two weeks since anyone posted in here?

So I've just finished my first play through and it was on Hard.

Put simply that had some of the dumbest most difficult bottlenecks/bosses I've ever encountered. Locked in camera angles for when a cut scene ended got ridiculous too. If you didn't play certain scenes exactly the way the game was designed it was impossible.

Example being I broke cover from a certain boss fight to cover a door from a better angle for the baddies about to walk through it, when the cutscene ended for me half killing said boss it switched my viewpoint from the baddies due in the door to the boss. Instadeath from door baddies.

Badly scaled hard mode. Not fun.

I got really bored of his whining too, he talked and talked.
    I can imagine on normal it's a blast. 7/10

Starting to dissuade myself from playing on Hard after beating the game. Think I'll stick with the Score Attack mode and Multiplayer.

I didn't think hard was all that hard TBH. There were bottlenecks but nothing I got stuck on.

I started it on hard thinking it will be alright considering there's two more harder difficulty levels. Boy was I wrong. I was almost back to my pad smashing days, so I swallowed my pride and stuck it on normal.

At first I found hard frustrating.
Until I realised that you get unlimited shoot dodge (try it, even if the bar is empty it works - doesn't make sense in terms of the HUD).
Also if you die a few times the game gives you a painkiller, die a few more times and you get another one.

If you can't have all the trophies you want none of them?

Yeah, that is pretty brutal. I can only imagine what I'd do to someone if I managed to make it to the very end and then died.

I didn't realise that dying in New York Minute restarts you from the very beginning of that chapter. Man, that's gonna be a lot tougher than I thought.

I did no mind the dying bit meaning you restart the chapter as much as some of those instant fail bits also meaning you restart the chapter. So fail on shooting one of the bad guys after what's her face on the night club level and you restart. Miss sniping a guy in the stadium level and itís a restart. That just killed it for me.

Im planning on unlocking all the unlimited ammo, one shot kills etc

When I do, can I still get the hard mode and hardcore story achivements with the cheats on?

Got around to this game at last and it is a lot better than i was expecting it to be, not too interested in multiplayer at all but the campaign has been class.
In 3rd part of game now.
Prefer the noir feel of first 2 however this game is still good enough vs first two.
Plus short length of game (8-10 hours) after finish off mass effect 3 is welcome.

Just picked this up as part of the Steam sale - bit of a bargain and it really is a fun and visually impressive game. If it is still around at the silly price I would recommend this. Some great locations and beautifully rendered.

Edit: Ah looks like it's gone up to £14 (got it for £7.50).

I was tempted to get it again on PC, but I don't have the speed, bandwidth or patience for a download that large.

The gunplay in this game is amazing, as it should be in a Max Payne game. It's also a good sign of things to come in Grand Theft Auto as Rockstar's notorious auto-aim system have always let their games down somewhat.

I've played 4 chapters so far and my reactions are somewhat mixed. It controls nicely, but it seems bloody hard intentionally at times - even for early levels - and at other times it just feels a little uninspired in the level design. This is especially true for the Jersey chapter, which was quite a let down after the one at the stadium.

I've also encountered multiple bugs already. Sort of strange for a game that's been out for so long and have had so many patches. I've begun buying games late to avoid all the on-release bugs, but looks like you can never be too sure...

One thing I will say. Goddamn how I've missed just throwing myself out in the midst of a firefight in slow motion and shooting double-SMG's like a mad-man!

Did anyone else experience a lot of bugs with this game on PS3? I often get stuck on cover where all controls sort of abandon me. Can't deattach, can't shoot, can't move, can't do anything until I do. It happens more often than it should 6 months after release.

Fair play to this game. It has excellent shooting mechanics and very cool use of the trademark slow motion experience, but cover and moving around can be real cumbersome and it often feels like it goes out of its way to be difficult even on normal where it should focus more on being fun and enjoyable.

Good game, but feels a little like a missed opportunity so far. I'm on chapter 7 in the favela right now.

Getting stuck to cover and paralysed was the only real bug I encountered, killed me a dozen times or so.

My biggest gripe is how slow Max gets up from shootdodge. You can't always arrange to dive from cover to cover, so when you land out in the open you get shot to bits. Cuts down on the awesomeness and makes it more of a cover shooter.
