Prime is amazing in the US. Free delivery (which is usually next day), access to their video streaming, rentals of ebooks, and they're supposed to be doing a spotify type thing soon and giving people streaming access to the entire mp3 catalogue.

That's pretty impressive. I like the e-book rental idea the most, I think.

    Edit: Is it more expensive?

It's usually $89 a year, but if you have any sort of educational email address, it's $39 for the Student version. Dunno how much the UK one is.

Does it come with any discounts on tangible items?

UK Amazon Prime is effectively 12.50 a year*

*Actually 50 but can be shared across 4 accounts :)

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Their tax system avoidance pisses me off. When a little indie bookshop on the high street can pay enough tax to pay for a nurse and Luxembourg amazon pay diddly grates. Plus waterstones + quidco can be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Fair point coastal, I can't see the Tories letting that loop hole go for too much longer. As for Waterstones, I don't use them after I built up 15 of points which they just randomly erased one day and never answered e-mails about it.

    Portable view - Never forget.

Amazon has gone to the dogs and are trash!

used to be a seller at the Marketplace for 4 years, 4.9/5 stars feedback, always GOOD feedback and rare bad feedback.

I had 2/5 bad feedbacks and a guarantee claim by a prick in 1 month and Amazon just shut down my account. Complete p*ss take!
And I recently sold an item, user gave me 4/5 feedback, I can't claim my money back.
Settlement date keeps pushing forward, I'm even meant to claim my money back.

I would advise people to avoid being an amazon marketplace seller/trader.
All they care about is their customers even if a customers is a prick that can't READ your description.

Anyone ever used the amazon trade-in site? What's the rough time scale for them notifying they had received it?

It should have arrived by last friday at the latest. Whenever I've used music magpie to clear out some of my vast amount of cds it's always been pretty quick, but I have no idea what amazon are like for this.

I've only used them once, to trade in a regular copy of Halo Reach when the LE became dirt cheap. My label email arrived on 20/12/10, I popped it in the post and got a follow up email saying it had been received and processed on 22/12/10, considering the time of year I was pretty happy with that!

I've used it a couple of times, and once again last week while clearing out a ton of stuff after weeks of DIY and spring cleaning.
As I recall quickest was a couple of days and longest was about a week, still nothing from the stuff i posted on the 7th but assuming bank holiday weekend has left a backlog.

And as for Amazons service, certainly in my experience they've been the best online retailer I've used, to the point where I've actually splurged on Prime* this week. The present Mrs Lampy's Kindle had a small speck on the screen and a very quick phone call got a replacement sent out in a day no questions asked.

Having said that I wish Amazon would buy some smaller boxes, as a few things do tend to arrive a bit over packed.

    *not a euphemism

On the packaging front, I had a cheap keyboard and mouse set delivered on Saturday, the box Amazon put the box the M+KB were in was big enough for a 24" monitor!

Yeah, they tend to go the "bigger is safer" route. I bought some t-shirts plus other smaller odds and ends and it came in a box the size of an automobile.

Finally got confirmation today. Reckon the jubilee bank holidays had something to do with it. Now to plot my spending!

Little bit concerned about the trade ins I sent them last Saturday. Every other time I've used them its arrived in a couple of days. Still showing as not recieved, 7 days later.

Obviously its only been 5 working days but its still a little worrying. Not sure how Amazon will proceed should they not arrive. I have proof of posting but no tracking.

Same here, though there is a thread of many, many reports of there being a delay at the moment and it can take up to 10 days - bit concerned all the same.

I can certainly testify to a delay, my trade ins were about 10-11 days before being fully complete, I'd put it down to the extra bank holiday. Hopefully you chaps don't have to wait much longer.

OT though the Sonos I bought with my trade in cash arrived defective and returning it was a doddle, with its replacement arriving next day.

Cheers guys, that makes me feel better. I was convinced they had been lost in the post.

Where is this thread you mentioned? Be nice to have updates from others so I can judge when mine might be dealt with.
