I just caught the first episode on Swedish TV. It seemed decent enough. A sort of medical whodunnit with competent writing and decent actors. The main reason I liked though was, of course, Hugh Laurie as House. He works really well as a sardonic but brilliant doctor, even if it's strange to see him use an american accent.

It's great to see someone who deserves it be successful.

Edit: Oh and if a mod could change the topic to TV instead of gaming that would be great.

It either disgusts or amuses me that a large section of the world's population thinks that Laurie is a yank! Good show though.

I actually bought the first season DVD of this last week as it's on sale in Virgin right now. Watched 6 episodes now and it is very good. Arguably a bit repetitive though.

Hugh Laurie really does a great job in the lead, but I was surprised to see Billy from Neighbours in there as one of the main cast as well :)

Ah, a good programme, and yes House generally saves the day by the end of the programme but if you keep watching, it'll turn out that the saving people sort of becomes a filler for the character development.

It is a truly excellent show. It falls into a predictable pattern too quickly (15 minutes left of the episode? Oh no, it can't have been the illness they thought it was because the patient has gone into seizure again!), but it is so well written / acted, you almost stop caring.

Oh, and it helps that Dr Cameron is mighty cute...

P.S. Season 3 started a couple of weeks ago in the US.

Jesus. I can't quite express how bad she looks in that outfit compared to (hubba hubba), a lab coat and stethoscope.

    And KY'd index finger.

I totally and utterly agree. I was originally just appealing to the typical EG'ers base instincts... ;)

It's one of my favourite shows, probably my favourite show right now. I did a bit of a marathon of it last week, and watched every episode of season 2 in 3 days.

I did the exact same thing a while back, got into the show about 10 episodes from the end of S2, bought the S1 DVDs (don't buy the R2 ones, they're full screen... :-() and then downloaded and watched all of S2 straight after watching it.

Fantastic show, S3 has had a bit of a strange start but it's still good.

    Formulaic, but great nonetheless.

I don't watch to see how they cure somebody, I watch for the banter and mainly just for House.

Ogling at Jennifer Morrison doesn't hurt ;)

Jennifer Morrison would be better if Cameron wasn't such a whiney bitch.

I actually find Cuddy quite hot, I'm not sure what it is about her. She has a great ass, though.

Great show, love it. It is formulaic, but that's part of its charm. Lost track towards the end of S2 though,

The end of S2 was the best!

    Except for Three Stories.

Oh, and I recommend everyone buy the US DVD over the European versions. The R2 DVD has the aspect ratio's fucked up, which causes a portion of the screen to be missing. Not only are they more expensive, but there are no rights for Massive Attacks song 'Teardrop', which is used for the intro in the US, and is far superior to the song used over here.

I saw up to the brain eating disease that Foreman suffered, but didn't see his full recovery or a couple of episodes after that....

R2 DVDs aspect ratio is fine, it's just 4x3, which is bloody annoying.

The S2 finale was pretty spectacular. It's a bit of a love/hate episode, but personally I thought it was fantastic.

This is the only TV show I watch atm. (call it post 'Firefly' Blues, but nothing else cuts it anymore.)

Gonna wait for once for S3 to reach the UK.

The last ep of season 2 (that insanity one no idea what it was called) was utterly brilliant.

Five seem to do that a lot. I quite liked their Season 1 title music, but the remixed version they used on Season 2 wasn't as good.

However, their Law & Order title music replacements by Rob Dougan, particularly Criminal Intent are much better than the crappy originals.

    +1

and thanks ecureuil for the name. When he presses those buttons near the end, and he thinks he may have been wrong. Now that got me. Was he or wasn't he?

(only time I can remember episode names is if I either downloaded it or bought it in DVD!)

House is brilliant even though it's totally implausible. It's the funniest show on TV, and it's not even a comedy. Last show I could say that about was Buffy.

Brilliant scripts, and amazing production design. Makes casualty's look like, well, casualty. cheap and shitty.

I'm disappointed that this show doesn't have a bigger following around here.

For anyone that might care, there's a new episode on tonight in the US. It's episode 5 of season 3.

    Can't wait, personally.

It's got a pretty huge following in Australia. Deservedly so.

Hugh Laurie completely carries the show - most of the other characters aren't even remotely interesting - but it's good enough for me.

I think it has a pretty good following in the UK as well - it just isn't the type of show that merits weekly discussion.

There's no mythology to follow, the small amount of ongoing plot doesn't develop very quickly, and debating the finer points of the potential relationship between House and Cuddy isn't going to take very long :-)

But on this episode, it's a good start back after the break. Nice to see that House has got a new friend to play with...
