Guys, has anyone ordered a Fire lately using the free delivery and if so how long did it take, do they send it 2nd class or because its a higher value item will it actually be delivered via courier anyway?

Why would you get a kindle fire when you can get a nexus 7?

If it helps, I ordered a Kindle Fire for my parents a couple of months back. It arrived in about 2 days.

I was after a book from the Kindle store, then I noticed that it is also available in an 'Enhanced' form. However, this Enhanced one says you can only read it on an iPad. Does it REALLY mean that? Genuinely? It seems a tad odd. I use the Kindle app on my Nexus 7 btw.

Probably an older book from before there was a Kindle app for Android, no?

Anyway, amazon.de says the paperwhite is back in stock, which surprises me a bit as it said "8 weeks" just before Christmas. Is the official case any good? Reviewers don't seem to be able to agree on that one at all.

Yeah, the enhanced for iPad stuff came around before the Fire et al, and virtually no-one bothered with it so they never really worried about making them Android compatible too.

Ah, OK then. Shame really as it sounds like a really good idea. I'll go for the standard one then, thanks!

    Meh.

Bought a Paperwhite a week ago. The screen is misaligned, it just doesn't sit properly in the frame. Complained at customer service, got another one, and it's even worse! Except this time, the lights are much better, more consistent and with no overly bright spots.

Honestly, I'd rather pay 10 or 20% more for better quality control than play this lottery. :-/

Noticed a Kindle Fire HD 8.9" for sale on Amazon now, 229.

A few reviews floating around today: Guardian, T3

Yup, they emailed me a while ago. Seems late to bring it over here, though, as I imagine they'll do a range refresh in the next few months.

Any recommendations for an ultra slim case for the Paperwhite? The August lion seems to get a lot of love. Have a neoprene case but want one that will still fit in my pocket.

Got rid of my paper white, became clear to me after I just couldn't bring myseld to sell my old 3g with keyboard that I still preferred the old one. Didn't like the light always being on and not being able to change the page with my gloves on. Great little device but I'm happy with my old one for now.

At its lowest brightness, the screen looks like the old one imo. Fair point about page turning though (even though there are gloves that work etc.)

I do a lot of my reading while walking or waiting for the bus. And Edinburgh being fucking freezing all the time I found myself having to user my nose to touch the screen! Great device though, miss how it tells you how long left in each chapter.

What about getting those gloves that leave the finger tips bare - I have the same problem operating mp3 players etc...

Did have a pair of this and they were really good and worked just as advertised... But I prefer wearing nice gloves over special ones. Even if my nice gloves make using anything impossible.

Those fingertip-less gloves also give off the impression that one is homeless.

    @mowgli

If you're Scottish you should man up its not that cold :p you could always ask strangers to touch the screen for you.
  • Deleted user 26 March 2013 00:43:23
My hands practically disintegrate in this cold! Seriously, get so dry they crack and start bleeding. I'll keep my gloves on and stick to my buttons!

Kindle Paperwhite vs Kobo Glo ?

It's Mrs bdaggers birthday soon, and she reads a ton of books on her iphone.

Has anyone on here the compared the KP vs KG in real life ? Reviews suggest the Kobo has a more even backlight .... but Kindle is the known brand and only a tenner more than the Kobo.

Nook Simple Touch Glow @ 69 - and it's epub friendly. Looks like the winner.

Looks the same, but it's just a little bit better, I guess!

Also worth highlighting they're doing a nearly-the-same version of their autorip mp3 for ebooks now - buy the physical book, get the kindle version either cheap or free, with purchases backdated to 1995.

Yeah, I logged into my Amazon Cloud Player recently and noticed some paid for CDs had been auto-ripped.

    Which was nice.
