There s something dead inside you if you cannot take joy from an overhead kick!

The reason people love them are simple as well:

    1. Spectacle - they are not a common occurrence and involve a player literally flipping themselves upside down/sidewards in order to get a successful volley connection with a ball.
    2. They are generally volleys, volleys are nearly always brilliant.
    3. They are generally performed in a tight space or a situation where it looks like nothing is on.
    4. Athleticism - it's a fabulous act of athleticism to perform and successfully execute a bicycle kick.

Wouldn't have thought it needed much explanation but anyway.

Out of interest, how many bicycle kicks have you ever scored/even attempted in an actual honest to God football match?

Yeah they're cool, I've scored loads in real life....they're not that difficult, for me the difficulty is landing without injuring yourself if anything. There are many other volleys that are way more skillful to pull off.

I see them as the layman's favourite goal....They look cool, but look more difficult than they actually are.....I guess thats why I am not as impressed as people that don't really play or like football, they're rare because of the situation you have to be in with the perfect ball rather than the skill itself.

There are a few that I love though, Like Rooney's....Or this beast

Pat McCourt (apparently we're calling him Paddy now) for Barnsley vs Borough.

I wish we still had him at Celtic.
