Weidman (bless him) won me 500 last weekend on an accumulator, not sure who I would bet on in a rematch though, really hoping Silva is going to serve him up! Cant fucking wait for 168!

I think Weidman is gonna be the arrogant one this time.
Silva will do him in round 2.

    I back? Back who?

    Don't see Weidman being arrogant.

Marloes Coenen may well be the toughest fighter in mma, painful to watch though :(

Cyborg was fucking brutal. It's no surprise that Ronda won't put on some weight and fight her - not only would Cyborg destroy her on the feet, but she's also bigger.

That 18 year old japanese fighter (forgot her name) looked like quite a prospect.

Finally got around to watching the Silva fight. Grade-A clowning but ultimately stupid and deserving of the loss because Weidman was connecting a little bit even in the first round. Should have just buried him once he got out of the takedown.

He'll murder Weidman in the rematch. First round KO.

The Cyborg-Coenen fight was vicious. Cyborg literally beat her around the ring. That was a career-shortener for Coenen.

Yup, possibly a life shortener too, man, is she tough though. It's no wonder these folks tend to be into whole foods, raw foods, supplements etc- they must be wonder if they're going to be rocking in a chair wearing an adult nappy at 50.

I've forgotten her name too, but, yes, she looked great! That was at 115? If so, I suspect she's always going to be too small to go to the UFC'S 135 division and make decent money...

Cyborg had a very similar fight against a girl called Jan Feeney (i think that was her name anyway).

She absolutely hammered the fuck out of this girl to the point where she was looking at the ref and asking for the fight to be stopped for the other womans sake.

Proof Silva clowning around is nothing new- it has been done before, and better ;)

wow how good was Melvin Guillard yesterday? He has been around forever, and that shows - he was really confident in there. Anderson Silva head movement, really good combinations and he looked like fucking king kong when finishing the fight with his GnP.

... the only sad thing is that he will probably do something silly and get knocked out by some no-name can in his next fight :(

Hmmm, MacDonald is the very epitome of what is wrong with the kind of fighters Firas Zahabi can turn out. Yes, he has that clinical/psycho thing going on... but there seems to be no point any fire enters his game, I just cannot get interested in such a cold fighter, nevermind the tepid personality.
I don't mind patient fighters, counter strikers etc- Machida is one of my all time faves- but MacDonald never managed a spark, a flash of brilliance all night.

Struggle with a lot of the lighter weight fighters too, love the skill and the speed, but miss the finishing power. Have to hand it to Johnson though, he's awesome to watch.

Does the utterly cheesy Fox style grate with anyone else?
Fucking fighting robots. FUCKING ROBOTS! For fucks sake!

Both Mac Donald and Ellenberger were embarrassing in that fight. I know the sport doesn't involve simply going bald-headed for KOs/subs but dancing around each other for the majority of the fight being "patient" for an opening that will never come is just fucking boring. May as well have the ref flip a coin to decide who wins and save us all the bother. I'm glad the crowd booed them so loudly at the end.

It's the reason i find GSP fights so boring, i can appreciate the tactic and his success is undeniable but it is just terrible to watch.

Demetrious Johnson will never not be fun to watch. He made his opponent look bush-league for 25 minutes straight and it was entertaining.

I think that that's on Ellenberger though. The technical guy is gonna do his technical thing, and it's up to the other guy to put him under pressure and drag him into a brawl somehow. I don't like it either, but...

Ellenberger was the one hyping the fight, being aggro on Twitter, and he was the one who failed to do anything meaningful. Why talk of putting people to sleep if you're not going to show up on the night?

He talked a lot about how people give MacDonald too much respect in the cage, and that's exactly what he did. Very silly. MacDonald was coasting, sure, but I don't blame him for the way the fight went down.

Unified rules may legalise kicks and knees to a "grounded" opponent:
    http://www.mmafighting.com/2013/7/29/4567606/unified-rules-could-change-to-include-some-knees-kicks-to-grounded

Seems like the change is intended to stop people from avoiding knees by "grounding" themselves by touching the canvas with a finger. It may also mean Jon Jones will have to stop doing that silly walking crocodile crawl thing at the start of his fights, as he'll be susceptible to legal kicks because he'll be classed as intentionally grounded.

Do you think something like this should also apply to people who pull guard?

I'm not a fan of "soccer kicks" (eugh! Damn Americans).

It's already a hard enough job defending MMA without the old Pride bloodlust on top.

I say just make it clear that no intentional touching of the ground will save you, then take it on a case-by-case bases from there.

"Soccer kicks" turn my stomach. I wouldn't mind allowing knees, though.

Totally, and "soccer kicks"... ugh, I feel unclean... just make it that bit harder to move away from the cage/pit fighting image too.

Gross ending to the Zombie/Aldo fight last night
  • Deleted user 4 August 2013 15:19:25
A bit of a dud fight in all honesty, certainly when you consider the personnel involved. I expected some proper pyrotechnics but we were treated Aldo fighting not to lose (again) and a rusty Korean Zombie instead. A bit fucking meh.
