I'm intrigued to find out if Nelson has insane punching power at 205.

Well, I guess he keeps the chin, since you don't loose any weight off of that!
Much as I love his shtick, White is right, he's his own worst enemy. He should have been at 205, or less for years now and even though his game is one sided, he probably would have worn a belt at some point for a while too.

Conor MacGreggor looks interesting... but it's far too early to ride the hype train yet for me, the last fight could have just been a good match up style-wise. Still, interesting guy and a left of field fight style too.

It may be a little early, yeah, but he's never seen a third round in fifteen fights, and his two losses have both been submissions less than a minute into the first round. I think he could be special.

Something awesomely oldschool about that knockout.

Anyone checked out Fight Master? It was... OK. I like the idea of the fighters picking their coach. Figured every fighter would try and pick Greg Jackson.

    That fist bump went well.

Very rare you se fights end like that, kinda a double knockout- fist to the front of the head, back of the head to the canvas

UFC 162 looks interesting. Frankie might still be a top 10-15 fighter, but I think Charles Oliveira is going to surprise a lot of people. He definitely has the tools to pull an upset.

I don't think it would be that much of a surprise, the guy is obviously hugely talented.

    What he lacks is discipline.

Really enjoyed Bellator's Fight Master, nice to see a slight change to the TUF formula.

Tend to use mma core for this stuff, is there a better streaming site out there?
  • Deleted user 21 June 2013 19:27:23
    Is Bellator worth watching?

I always enjoyed the hilarious B-league shennanigans in Strikeforce but i know nothing about Bellator.

I like Oliviera, but he's outmatched at this point with Edgar. I don't even think he'll be able to get Frankie down in order to use his BJJ.

Yes. It's quite good, they tend to have some badly mismatched fights in the early rounds of their tournaments, but the semi finals/finals/title matches are some of the best MMA fights going. The best ever match in Bellator was Mike Chandler v Alvarez, which, unfortunately for them, was on the same night of the epic Shogun v Henderson fight and was a match that should have won fight of the year.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HziG9DBfJf0

The standard is very high, as fighters have to earn their title shots, rather than be gifted them.

If you've got the time, this is an awesome documentary about the early days. Mark Kerr did damage in the cage and was damaged out of it:

  • Deleted user 22 June 2013 13:16:34
Yeah, classic documentary that, theres not nearly enough MMA docs when you think about it :/ I always thought Louis Theroux missed a trick with MMA back when it was described as human cockfighting, it would of been a perfect for one of his weird weekends.

I didnt think much of Anderson Silva's 'Like Water' doc.

Speaking of which, I think Weidman is being given too much credit at the moment, he's good, but he isn't Anderson Silva good...
  • Deleted user 24 June 2013 21:25:34
Cant wait to see it! Its Silva's sternest test since Hendo imo, I want him to win but I do favour Weidman tbh.

In my mind its Weidman's top game that concerns the most, its of an extremly high standard and Silva's defensive guard has proved penetrable in the past. If Weidman is able to advance position its real danger for Silva.

    But on the feet :)

Silva is the GOAT, and every guy who wins more than two matches at MW is talked up./ Silva will tko or sub him in round two.

Weidman has a punchers/grapplers chance but I think Silva will make him look amateurish.

Silva's gonna get his third stoppage by knee in a row.

I do worry about the top game for sure, read somewhere that Weidman's wrestling credentials are considered superior to Sonnens if you're in the know in that US scene.

Having said that, Weidman's record really isn't that stellar and I'm not seeing many say that. Damien Maia was in his ridiculous "I can box" mode when he fought him, Munoz didn't look in shape. Alessio Sakara? Tom Lawler? Middle ranking and/or gatekeepers all.

Of course, if it gets to the floor Silva might struggle to get up, I'm hoping Silva will Forest Griffin him on the way in though ;)

Just managed to aquire the entire Pride event collection, any of you guys have any event recommendations? Ive just dipped in to random events so far.

Watched Pride 1 and it was amazing to see just how much the sport has changed in 15 years.

    Nice, thanks.
Total Elmination 2003 was the first one I watched actually. Enjoyed it. The Cro Cop high kick knockout was incredible.

As I only got in to MMA about 4-5 years ago, the Pride rules seems kinda strange at first what with the with no elbows to the head, yet knees and kicks to the head of a downed opponant allowed.

He is either- after a very short career- beginning to sound punch drunk... or perhaps he just was drunk.

    So he beats Silva

Edit - been changed but someone had him beating Silva in the 3rd round by Technical Submission (d'arce choke)
