I would love to see Big Country win the belt if only to see Dana thoroughly fail to get it round him at the end of the fight.

Nope, no idea. Another thing that I loved about this event was seeing how squeamish Jones was after he realised he'd hurt his toe. These are guys who are utterly fearless, and go in to a fight ready to be knocked to oblivion. But a self-inflicted broken toe and he's suddenly shuddering with adrenaline, squeaky-voiced and ready to pass out :D

The break happened when he was on top of Chael getting ready to drop some elbows. It just totally gave way, no strange twist or anything like that. Quite odd.

Yeah refs stop fights when the person purely on the defensive via fetal position and face covered.

You can also imagine the ref saw the damage to his face too, which looked pretty mangled after only a few minutes.
Not always, Looks at Carwin vs Brock. Fight was allowed to go on because Brock was protecting him self. Came back next round and won.

When it comes to title fights I'd prefer to see the referee wait longer before stepping in for a stoppage. Obviously if the grounded fighter is completely out the fight should be stopped, but Chael was still conscious and squirming.

They also need to let the fighters work against the cage more. Sure the fans boo but too many refs rush in and break it up.

Yeah but Carwin gassed early and it was obvious to the ref a lot of his punches were pillow- punches.

Cheal's face on the other hand.

I don't see the debate, Sonnen was getting served up and it was only going to get a lot worse.

There have been hundreds of bad stoppages, Jones/Sonnen is not one of them.

Same. Sometimes refs allow to to go on if they punches aren't powerful enough or aren't connecting.
By Chael's face, he was getting damaged heavily and was covering up with no attempt to do anything. Even he didn't diagree with the stoppage (and you can imagine he would find any excuse to whinge).

I dont think it was a bad stoppage but I think the ref could have let it go on another 5/6 seconds to see if Sonnen was going to do more.

That was the most one sided fight I've ever seen.

    Heavyweight division is really lacking.
Beyond a series of Cain vs JDS (with Cain winning the majority), there's no one else to challenge those two.

Did anyone really think Silva had a chance? Especially after their first fight.

You can tell from those fights that JDS has no chance against Cain. He seems to hesitate too much, and play it safe and still get tagged against even a slower fighter. Cain is just gonna pile on the pressure, and JDS won't be able to think fast enough to avoid getting battered.

Gotta share your opinion of JDS having little chance in a rematch. Though a heavyweight scoring a KO from a spinning kick! Love that.

Off the wall, but what I would like to see is Cain vs Big Country:
    - Big Country is hard to KO
    - He has offensive BJJ off his back which could put Cain in trouble
    - Big Country could quite possibly KO Cain, which may stop Cain from coming in for the takedown

I think Nelson is one or two more wins away from a title shot. If he flash KO's Stipe in June then I can see it happening after JDS gets his trilogy shot. And if JDS wins against Cain, it sets Big Country up nicely for a rematch with him for the belt.

Nelson only has one fight left on his contract as well which is a worry.

JDS has a chance against Velasquez in a rematch, his uppercut gives him a chance against anyone. I do suspect he will lose but he cant be written off.

JDS doesn't seem to like getting hit and i can see Cain beating him again. Would like to see Cain vs Country.

Ah neat. VIVA's one of those shitty Freeview channels that show turgid dance music videos non stop.

A bit of meh card tonight, I have very little interest in it tbh.

And apprently TUF Brazil had an abysmal season with terrible fights and plummeting ratings. I hear it could be up for the chop.
