I like Family Guy. It's not the best show ever but it's more hit than miss.

In my opinion it was almost always a hit until it was canceled. It's been poor ever since. I was quite simply obsessed with the show until season 4 came along. It's not just the same - just isn't as funny.

I'll reiterate this is just my opinion.

That said it's better than the Simpsons, the mediocre American Dad and the on the whole terrible Family Guy.
King of the Hill was something very special indeed I think you will find.

Only this and Futurama really tried to make themselves more than a simple cartoon by injecting real emotions and development into the shows.

King of the Hill also had some of the most superbly realised characters with depth and real personality.

It's a shame to see it cancelled, but then it's had a bloody good run. Just hope this means they can finally sort out some of the problems stopping regular DVD releases.

That was - as if this needs pointing out - just my opinion.

I enjoy watching the show, I just don't think it was all that special, to me personally. I rarely if ever find it humourous but I apreciate that there is more to it than just comedy.

The Simpsons doesn't develop at all. It's the same thing each week.

King of the Hill regularly had character story arcs that would cover multiple episodes/seasons. New characters would be added alongside the main cast and all characters would change over time.

They're bring out 'The Cleveland Show'?!

Has Cleveland started being even the slightest bit funny in Family Guy or something?

McFarlane et al have gone so far downhill to the point of actually saddening me. His 'Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy' was abysmal.

The Simpsons did that. They added new characters and had an established continuity. Anyway, my response was to the "real emotions" comment, which The Simpsons did first, and brilliantly. You don't need story arcs to have an emotional episode.

It's coming out next autumn. I think it looks fairly decent.

If I exaggerate, I apologise. I was just such a stupidly big fan of Family Guy 1-3 and felt so let down when it returned.

In retrospect, and I wanted the exact opposite in 2005 and before, I wish MacFarlane and Fox never brought it back.

The last ever episodes of this are on E4 at 11:00 pm tonight so I thought it pertinent to bump this thread. I know it was cancelled ages ago but I only have lowly Freeview so this is a premiere for me.

It was never as popular as other animated programmes but I loved it and I know a couple of others here did. I've always found it to be a rare US example of truely dry humour. It became more obviously comedic over time but it was still quite different to Family Guy, South Park, The Simpsons et al.

It's a shame that it was cancelled in favour of The Cleveland show, which although decent enough is basically the same as Seth MacFarlan's other stuff. Hopefully we'll get some proper DVD releases of it now.

It wasn't really cancelled for The Cleveland show tbf. It'd been on the slide for a while.

Awww - shame. I've been watching all of the episodes from the start over the last few weeks. I love The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park etc - but KOTH will always be my favourite.

It's better to burn out than to fade away. ;)

I thought King of the Hill was shit, especially the last one. Unless ''a shared love of meat'' is really a euphemism and Bobby is Hank's secret bitch.

And there was a terrible episode repeated the other day when Bobby discovered Jesus but it was all extreme dude Jesus and shit. I can't even be bothered to discuss it, as it was so shit.

I think King of the Hill has to be one of the most consistent shows ever. 13 seasons and the quality never really dipped too much.

I prefered the Simpsons when they had more down to earth storylines like the ones in King of the Hill.

Just got to season 3 of this show, somehow it passed me by. Loving it so far. Boomhauer is my fav character, he has some legendary quotes! Just listened to him explain the meaning of life, so funny!

The episode of King of the Hill where Bill takes up weight training is probably my single favourite episode of any animated comedy. Still generally prefer the other stuff name checked in the OP, but, but that particular episode makes me start laughing just thinking about it. KOTH definitely has stronger secondary characters than most.

I do a similar thing with the episode where Bill starts dressing as a woman. Bill is just so pathetically funny in the most wonderful way.

Randy Savage is in it as well - oh yeah!

King of The Hill is awesome.

i'd like to see Family Guy or The Simpsons make grout whitening funny.

Hank's crippling cringe factor is a big part of it. he's like the anti Homer/Peter Griffin.

    Bang on
I have watched it from start to end and it was such a underated toon in this country. I just wished they would release season 7 on, on DVD. Not much chance but one can dream.

Love KoH, can't really choose a favourite episode, though I did see the videogame one again recently! "Taste the meat, not the heat" :D

It's so offbeat I find it hard to watch more than a couple at a time. I do really like it though.

I only discovered the show last year, watched 2 seasons in one sitting and rest by the end of the week. And then again a month later! The show is exactly the right pace for when one is in a relaxed state of mind (-:

I liked the fact that Joseph was probably the only cartoon character to go through puberty.

Heh my favorite episode is the one where Bobby gets gout.

I also use Rusty Shackleford as my alias.

Thread needs a bump. Watcheing this obsessively. I've always been a fan but never watched them in any order, one of the few things on TV I would pipe up and insist on watching if we stumbled across it. Think I'm making myself ill watching it so much though :/

    Pissy pants.
