The ultimates has been great since it came back and the x-men has been pretty good too but, yes, for better or worse the three books are so intertwined it would be difficult not to read all of them.

It's still readable and understandable without reading the main Ultimates storyline, it's just not so good. Ultimate Spider-Man with Miles Morales is only 17 issues in and it already looks like it's lost it's way.

Hmm, interesting, i'll check them out. I hope the return of the Ultimates is good enough to remove the stench of Ultimates volume 3. *shudder*

Wasn't Ultimate X-Men supposed to have ended with a Magneto special world ending doodad story arc? Why'd they bring it back?

Its hard to say without completely spoiling it but, basically, after magneto washed out NYC mutants are rounded up and moved into detention camps.

    Hilarity ensues.

This conversation led me to opening volume 1 and 2 of the Ultimates. I'd forgotten how good it was. Why aren't Marvel producing stuff like this in their main universe? I wish they'd gone through with their early aim of making the Ultimate universe their primary one. :(

Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's Ultimates was something very special indeed.

I was very disappointed that page didn't make an appearance in the Avengers film. Wasted.

Speaking of the avengers movie, i saw it again earlier today. Still brilliant but yes it was lacking epic horizon shots. That aside, my favourite superhero movie alongside the incredibles.

Batman and Deadpool aside, i haven't enjoyed much of the superhero fare out there for a while. Any other stuff worth checking out aside from the rebooted ultimate books?

As for one piece, i haven't read anything superheroey from the west since whedon's run on Xmen and cable & Deadpool ended that has excited me like it does. Oh well, each to their own.

Theres just no way they can put it in unless the avengers two sees them stop fighting generic aliens and start fighting angry brown people.

They took a lot of things from the ultimates but pithy political commentary wasnt one of them, sadly.

Avengers 2 is gonna be Thanos. While Disney seem to be very hands off with the comics no way they won't have a say in the films. There's a reason all the franchises are pg-13.

2000AD doesn't get much action in here but to say what's been happening in recent weeks is possibly some of the most impressive stuff I've ever read in comics and I've been reading them since the seventies.

All comes to an end with the next prog too.

Aside from the Dredd Case Files I don't buy any 2000AD these days, in fact I think I stopped buying Progs just after the Total War arc. Is the new stuff as good as that?

The Cold Deck story has been fantastic. 2000AD has been great for the last while, some great stories.

Well, weirdly they were well on the right track with the Captain America movie. I can't qute remember exactly what happened now as it was a while ago, but it felt like there was good scope for some Nazi aliens to attack the earth not unlike in the Ultimates. It just kind of all got forgotten though.

You too, kal. Write why you fucking hate DC Comics or something. If you want to, obv. I'd like it on my site. Unless, of course, you have something of your own.

    Or not.

I thought Captain America pretty much set the Red Skull up for being the main antagonist, yeah. They could have followed that story to the letter, Red Skull gets zapped to another dimension, strikes deal with aliens, leads space nazi coup.

The problem with that, I suppose, is its even harder to handwave thor back into the mix. It also probably became quite apparent that hugo weaving doesn’t give a shit about the part anymore.

The problem with that is that it would be an overview, rather than a review. Its 18 issues in, so thats quite a lot of ground to cover.

They love, they laugh, they get attacked by killer robots..

Overview would be fine. Just out of 10 up until now. Narrative style. Artwork. Panelling. Pacing.

You know, all that shit. A review.
  • Deleted user 29 November 2012 11:04:52

I'm just not into comics enough at the moment to summon up enough passion to write anything about them really. Or anything else for that matter.

    Superman is good.
    Batman is ok.
Both are better than Green Lantern.
Undecided where the Flash fits in.

    OK?

Finally found some comics I like after a couple of years of trying recommendations, so thought I'd bung them here for any other struggling comic virgins.

Kick Ass 2, Nemesis, Punisher and Danger Club have all been very well received so have at it!

If you like Kick-Ass 2, you have quite low standards, so close your eyes and throw a dart into a comic shop.

But, srsly, pick up The Boys. The run has just finished (with a bit of a whimper, it has to be said) but its generally very good.

If you like the thought of seeing hookers snort speed laced with super drugs to cope with getting fucked by a guy with the strength of ten men, you'll love the boys.
