Lampard is overrated, maybe more so than Gerrard actually. Because Steve McClaren is not a good manager, what did he with Middlesborough? Uefa Cup final? Luck.

Top three players in the premiership? That is madness, he's not even in the top three midfielders IMO. Makelele, Scholes, Giggs, Alonso and Fabregas are all better than him.

I know but wasn't that mostly because Liverpool had crap strikers last season?

I wasn't comparing those players to Gerrard but merely suggesting other midfielders who are better than him. IMO said Gerrard is easily one of the top three midfielders in the premiership, that simply isn't true. Yeah giggs was a stupid comparison in retrospect.

I would agree that him being moved to the wing was a factor but for someone who is meant to have such a massive influence over games and be an "inspriational leader"... well, he's not and hasn't been for a while. If you're trying to suggest that he can control games, well, he can't, he can improve those around him but I've never seen him control a game. It seems to me, and I could be wrong here, that you're trying to compare him to Roy Keane(obviously Gerrards a better passer and goalscorer) but as regards to leadership, motivation etc. no chance. Not sure if that's what you mean though.

No what I meant was that had they a decent striker he wouldn't have been top scorer.

That's a fair point, certainly off the top of my head I can't think of too many but for me he's not consistent enough.

Don't think we're getting anywhere so lets agree to disagree?

Three players that I believe, would walk into any team in the Premiership and even the best teams in Europe - Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and Thierry Henry - these three guys at their peak, are simply unplayable, even more so that Giggs, Alonso, Scholes and the rest.

Gimnastic is all over Real Madrid at the moment.. They've just earned themselves a penalty after Cannavaro sliced down a forward..

    GOL! =)

Anybody seen AC Milan - Inter? Just seen the match summary:

    17' 0-1 Crespo
    22' 0-2 Stankovic
    47' 0-3 Ibrahimovic
    50' 1-3 Seedorf
    68' 1-4 Materazzi
69' Materazzi red card (second yellow)
    76' 2-4 Gilardino
    90' 3-4 Kaka
90' Maicon red card (second yellow)

Wow, now that is what I call a derby.

What's up with Juventus getting ANOTHER reduction on their punishment? Why not just put them back in the Serie A if you're not too bothered about punishing these match fixing clubs.

Inter beat Milan 4-3 in a thrilling derby. Materazzi was sent off for pulling his jersey over his head (not taking it off) after he scored Inter's fourth goal, and Milan almost manged to come back and draw the game against 10 tired men.

It sucks that the penalties got reduced for everyone but Milan, but Juventus are still relegated and out of Europe for at least two seasons which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick for fans of non-cheating sides (like me).

How fricking ridiculous is it to be sent off for celebrating a goal? How does pulling your shirt over your head or celebrating with your fans even compare with taking a dive or cynically hacking down an opposing player? How the fuck?!

Stankovic is great, isn't he. I hope this big win will give Inter a boost for the CL matches coming up.

I hate it when he's stuck on the left. He has so much more to give!

Thought we might have had a great comeback, but I guess it wasn't to be.

We need to concentrate on the CL this season rather than the Scudetto.

Milan aren't doing so well this year without the Italian refs lending a hand, eh, eh. :) Still, they're doing better in the CL than Inter are so far.

Ronaldinho scored a cracking freekick goal to put Barca 2-1 up - and almost made it 3-1 in injury time when he hit the bar and the ball bounced straight down from the underside of the bar - Saviola followed up and made it 3-1 although he was in an offside position the goal stood.. A pretty boring game that only came to life after two (seperate) sendings off midway through the 2nd half..

The lack of support for this thread European football thread on Eurogamer is a bit sad!

Anyway, I saw a bit of Real Madrid's game and RvN scored four goals, and the one with his left foot was a really brilliant goal.
  • Deleted user 13 November 2006 14:30:19
Yeah the left footer inside the near post was very nice!

    Barca = lucky bastards.

He's missed a few penalties this year, but it seems like a lot of penalties aren't getting past the keeper... more so than last year.

Heh, at least this thread gets more posts than the Rugby thread which doesn't even exist. :( (All Blacks beat France 47-3 this weekend.)

Holy fucking shit... Ronaldinho just scored an absolutely incredible chest & overhead off the crossbar.

I'm sure it'll be on youtube in a short while.

Ronaldinho has just scored a great overhead kick against villareal.

Lovely chest control and then first time over head. Magnificent stuff.

Bollocks I knew I should have watched that game.

edit: turned it over in time to see a replay. Great finish!

Yep, Ronaldinho has certainly (not) lost it...

Villareal are very difficult to play against normally (not only at their stadium) but Barca were all over them today and won comfortably..

    Where was Riquelme.. injured?

He's back in Argentina with his wife who is expecting to give birth.

He's not played at the Camp Nou sice leaving and always has an excuse.

Yeah they were kidding about it in the studio on Sky Sports about it.

That's three years in a row he's had something better to do that play against Barca at the Camp Nou :)
