According to C&VG this game has (for now) revived the fortunes of the Gamecube in a pretty big way over in Japan, the Cube outselling the PS2 and shifting close to 200,000 copies in its first week on sale.

Anyone got any more info on it 'cause it sounds quite good.

    Ta. :)

From what I'd read I thought the 'cube had always done well in Japan and 'twas the 'box that has been struggling...

The Jap sales figures for the year up until the end of August were:

    PS2: 1.9m
    GBA SP: 1.5m
    GC: 450,000
    Xbox: 71,000

In theory I guess that means Nintendo sell more hardware than Sony.

    Here ya go

Yep, N is kicking ass, with the PS2 in third place, although I imagine the problem is that they are running out of people that don't have one....

Who wants to bet that NoE will be now more motivated than ever to push the Cube in Europe..../groan. Good news I spose. Wonderswan narrowly beaten by the XBox.

Do we have a European date for Tales... yet?

    Didn't think so. :-(

The US release of this is now just around the corner (2nd week July)

Is anyone planning on getting this? It seems to have got largely postitive reviews on Gamerrankings although they seem to be based on the Jap version - I guess the US version will be quite faithful tho..

    any thoughts?

Definitely picking up a copy of this when I'm over there next month. Been looking forward to it for a while.

Thinking about getting it with a Freeloader. I hear they can be temperamental though, so maybe I'll wait for someone else to take the plunge :p

I'll be getting this, although I'll probably hold out for a possible PAL release for a while first.... and at the risk of incurring the wrath of the Cuboids.... I think I'd prefer the PS2 version. Sorry.

No, Blerk has gone mad. There's no PS2 version - although a bunch of the other Tales of... games have come out on PS2 and PSone.

I find freeloader on the Cube a godsend and highly recommend it - I have (touch cube) not had any issue with it and it's very easy to use and allows you to play games 3-6 months ahead of PAL release :D

ah but there is/will be a ps2 version, only its not going to be translationified or escape the shores of japan.

Might import this if it turns out the translation doesn't suck donkeys.

Pah - RPG amateurs! Of course there is a PS2 version!

    Look, see.

Currently only the Cube one is scheduled for release outside of Japan. But there's every chance of at least a US release for the PS2 version. We won't get a European release of it, of course, because it's a Namco RPG and they fucking hate us.

Will you be getting Symphonia then? We need a freeloader guinea pig ;-)

Can't wait for a European release for this, might even splash out on a Freeloader to nab the US one.

There a history of dodgy translations for the series then? Anyone care to elaborate?

Hmm, weird - I was chatting with a Japanese friend about it and he was adamant that the PS2 Tales of Symphonia was a different game. Guess he was on crack :)

Can't see why you'd want to play it on PS2 rather than Cube, mind, given that the Cube version will have significantly nicer graphics etc...

You sure he's not thinking of Tales of Destiny 2 or Tales of Rebirth, both of which are PS2 exclusives?

Anyway... the whole 'rather on PS2' thing is purely laziness - my PS2's always plugged in under the telly, whereas I have to get the Cube out of the cupboard. :-)

Your cube is in the cupboard? tut tut, for shame Blerk, for shame.

Even worse, my Cube has been in the cupboard since last September. Untouched.

I thought Viewtiful Joe was boring and repetetive, can't understand what the fuss is about. I need Symphonia to bring my Cube back to life.

I did want to like VJ, but I thought it'd be too risky to just buy outright. So when GAME said they were sending demos out to people who'd bought Cube stuff from them in the past I thought - ideal! Except they never sent me one. The swines.

I've had my Cube for over a year now and I still only have six games. It's not been the success I imagined it would be. Still... things are looking up a bit for the future, eh?
