I was watching the marketplace trailer again last night, looks so pretty. I really didn't get on with KOTOR though so I'm wondering if this will be for me.

Except that System Shock isn't a Bioware game, of course. ;)

    Indeed.

First time ever that I've known more about who has made what game than Blerk.

I doubt it will happen again.;)

Actually, looking down their Wikipedia entry I can now confirm that I have never played a Bioware game in any way, shape or form. So there you go. :-)

I just can't get into PC gaming. And I don't have an Xbox. So... things. :-)

Well, I know you don't like gaming on the PC, but that is a bit surprising. Especially the classic Bioware and Black Isle games have everything you like - heavy emphasis on the story, turn-based battles, colourful NPCs.

I am almost convinced you'd love Planescape Torment. ;)

I wouldn't say stunning but it was very good - In no small part due to it's COMBAT. Did you hear that Bioware? Look, just rip off the battle system from FFXII for Mass Effect, I'm sure they won't mind:-)

And they did somewhat rip that off from KOTOR, anway.

Can't wait for this - looking very good from what little I've seen/read.

Sweet, sweet Bioware, you do spoil me so.

Aye, let's hope they don't let us down. If there's a 'level' in ME that is forty three feet long, roughly rectangular in shape with a square cross-section I shall be very unhappy.

More then 7 NPCs in the middle of a metropolis would also be nice. Especialy if they have a combined vocabulary of more then 4 phrases.

Argh, and I was so hoping I would be able to get away with not buying a 360 until late next year. Hmm well if they do modify the price after the Euro PS3 launch I think I might have to take the plunge.

Haven't tried Kotor II or Jade Empire yet. Am loving Kotor at the moment though.

I'm cautious about the idea of being able to land anywhere on a planet though. The amount of landscape they would have to create for that would be crazy. The galaxy map looks good, I'd love to know more about what you can do though, how many of the planets are actually accessible etc...

It would be nice if they had a proper economy system as well rather than completely disconnected merchants dotted around the place. More towards EvE Online....sigh

Jade Empire is very good. KOTOR 2 seemed to me to be a remix of KOTOR 1 - similar storyline in many places, not a great evolution of the series. Still good, though.

They could use some kind of landscape generator like the Total War series has. Make, say, 10 different planet types (desert, ice, rock, etc.) and let you land on them, with some random stuff you can find there (monsters, ruins, equipment, natural resources to refuel the ship, random sidequests).

    A bit like Starflight.

KoTOR 2 is a bit odd, as the ending was so abrupt and rubbish - it was rushed out at the last minute. If you have the PC version there's a load of unused dialogue on the DVD from an ending that never happened in the game. Just found Jade Empire a bit too easy on the combat front.

That's my only problem with KOTOR 2. I personally prefered the game right up until that ridiculously awful ending.

That makes sense, forgot about that. Would the game also be able to remember what it made a planet look like the next time you land? Or would the landscape be generated as it comes into view?

I'm not very good on the technical side, so this might seem stupid to others. A last question is how would the core 360 cope with the amounts of data needed to be stored if planets were to be generated and then stay the same?

    /is stupid

    Starflight \o/

Loved that when I was younger - fired it up on an emulator a couple of months back actually. The music is ace.

Edit: There's a fan-made Starflight III in the works!

Another Starflight (2) fan here. More loved the newer Star Control 2 though.

strangeed, it is not unthinkable for Bioware to employ a form of procedural generation (speaking of which - it was used by Starflight) here. Some form of algorithm might be employed to create the vast majority of the terrain on the fly, with certain locations to be superimposed based on predefined meshes.
