I finished my second play through the other night on Veteran, and even started a third because i'm a little bit mental. Hardcore was still locked though, or can you not play that through with the same character, do you have to start another fully new ie level 1 character ?
  • Deleted user 22 January 2010 14:52:59
I think you have to play through the game without changing the difficulty. You can change it any time before finishing Eden Prime but after that you have to leave the difficulty untouched to get the higher ranks.

I think, its been a while!

I got this a couple of days ago in anticipation of ME2. The AI isn't that great. Before a battle I order both my team mates to shield boost and ran in. The enemy started firing so I ordered them to take cover. They just stood there. In a matter of seconds, even with shield boost, they were dead, again. It's basically me against the enemy on my own.

Thats exactly what i did for the last playthrough, i put in on Veteran instead of normal.

But i want to now play it on Hardcore, however thats not unlocked, although as i understand it the Hardcore difficulty setting should unlock after you complete a playthrough of the game on any difficulty.

Other than knowing that you can't change the difficulty midway through as that caught me out one time.

Oh, this thread mentions what you are after!

No it doesn't. Hardcore is still locked for me, despite the fact i have completed it twice.

    I think i've found a bug. :(
  • Deleted user 22 January 2010 15:27:47
Damned that is odd then; I'm screwed if I know what's happened :(

Booo. I wanted to 1000 point it. Won't manage that if i can't even get it to unlock Hardcore.

Just finished my second playthrough on Hardcore as prep for the sequel this week. Finished as level 59 (boo!) soldier. No real regrets though as it was pretty much the perfect playthrough - all sidequests done, Ashley was unfortunately sacrificed this time around, Wrex lived, had me some alien lovin' and saved the council and chose Captain Anderson.

    Cannot wait for Friday!

I completed my 5th play through yesterday to get a save how I want it for ME2. Did it on Insanity and reached level 60 (was 58 at the start), and was reminded of how broken the Immunity power is with the specialisation in it from the Commando talent. It lasts longer than its cooldown period, meaning you can have it active all the time. Given that it makes you just about invincible (direct blasts from a Geth Colossus don't have any noticeable effect on your health), it's a pretty broken power.

Only took 10 hours from start to finish and I decided to watch most of the conversations again. Still great fun to play, and has left me even more anxious to get my hands on the sequel.

Just finished a level 60 playthrough with my Biotic Adept, who is also pretty invincible with her souped up Barrier. In fact I didn't bother with a gun by the end - just threw fools around and froze them, letting my sidekicks finish them off. Which they usually didn't because the AI is so broken. But still, such a great game!

I just installed this for the first time through Steam. I don't get how i'm supposed to populate those quick commands things - top left of the screen. At one point in the first mission it tells me to put my overkill skill or upgrademathingy up there but i haven't a clue how.

Hold down the spacebar (I think, it's changed in ME2 and that messes up my memory) to get the pause screen, and then you can drag icons from that to the quickbar.

I have the patience of a saint and the iron will of a god. Despite having got ME2 on thursday night - it still sits in its packaging as I promised to myself I'd finish 'renegade' Sheperd playthrough number 2 on ME1 first.

    1) I have forgotten how huge this game is
    2) How awesome this game is - playing as renegade on hardcore with a leveled up Infiltrator means its like a brand new experience
    3) As painful as it is not ripping open ME2 - I'm just thinking about it as having a super extended mega end-game :)

I'm even enjoying the driving bits again - I think the sound effects and moody music have a big part to play in this. (Although going straight to the side missions and not bothering with dog tags/heavy metals etc)

Anyway - none of you are reading this as you are all on ME2 no doubt. I'll be there soon myself. Happy Days! :D

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

I just finished the first game, first time through it, ever. I did basically everything, including the vast majority of the sidequests. Enough to get the Completionist achievement and up to level 50. I played "asshole Shepard", the Sentinel class, upgraded to Biotic. Ashley and Wrex were my mainstays. If I could have named my team, it would have been TEAM MACGUYVER.

    Random thoughts:

-I love being an asshole in this game. It's good that you're not exactly "evil", but that you are more than willing to punch people to get the message across. I wanted more options to punch people, frankly. Betraying that woman on Noveria was delicious, also.

-I don't love the identikit planets. Apart from the story ones, the only variation is in the colour of the ground, height of the mountains, and various weather effects that don't really... affect anything. Not once did I ever feel threatened by a "level 2 hazard"

-Interiors were a bit samey, too, as were many of the quests

-Loved biotic powers, especially Lift. And Throw, when you could throw people off mountains :D

-Combat was fairly poor, though. The AI was ordinary, and doesn't seem to improve on higher difficulties

-I wanted something more to use omnigel for. Apart from the occasional Mako repair, it didn't get much use. Also, it would be nice to make money a little harder to come by. It seemed like anything I did in the mid to late game earned me 10,000 credits or so, to say nothing of all the useless upgrades I had to sell. I was easily up to the max amount of money by the end, with nothing really to spend it on.

I hope some of the bad stuff is improved in the sequel. I'm definitely going to play it at some point, importing my character. After I'm done with Halo: Reach, Dead Rising 2 and New Vegas, that is. :)

I just started playing this (new xbox owner).

It's a bit talky. And not KotOR.

    The trailers always promised that...

    ..but not that.

If you can read this, you don't need glasses.
