See... they have some awesome artists. The game looks fucking incredible.

But it's still going to be KOTOR all over again. Though the added strategy elements sound nice, I'm disappointed by their inability to give up on magic.

It sounded like (on Gamespots e3 floor demo of this) that they have got a HUGE world that you can explore whenever you want whilst doing the main story. The editors were comparing to KOTOR but without the star wars liscence (even tho they have it :p)...so they can kinda make their own huge universe rather than use the star wars one again.

Sounds like a huge single player MMO which looks fantastic...Hopefully Bioware will hit another one out of the park (like they did with KOTOR 1/2 and Jade Empire) Can't WAIT!!!

When i first heard about Mass Effect i though it would be Halo with talking bits between the fights. However, it really seems as if the've made a proper next generation RPG without watering it down.

I love the fact that its been designed as a trilogy. It will be interesting to see how the evolves though the different parts. I've got the feeling by the end of the third game it will be truely epic.

    Sort of a sci-fi Oblivion? I'd buy that for a dollar :-)

Yeah sounds like a sci-fi Oblivion-Jade Empire....cause i think the fighting is real time ala Jade Empire rather than turn-based ala KOTOR

The production design on this title is probably the best I have seen for a long time. The quality and execution of design is incredible -as is the technical abilities of the engine.

I'm not sure how it's comparable with KOTOR thuogh having read that preview. For instance the combat is realtime and if memory serves KOTOR was half and half. It's be a shame for me, as I wasn't the biggest KOTOR fan - that game felt too dry and lacking in character for me, although giving it an engine and design comparable to Mass Effect that criticism may not be something we need to worry about here.

Linear, all their games have been too linear.

What it needs, first and foremost, are levels/planets that are bigger and give a greater sense of exploration than my appartment.

    /glares at Kotor

    edit:

And a more challenging combat, be it real-time or not.

I have no problem with this if it means that they have more time to spend on visuals and gameplay within the confines of that linearity.

Most of the best Action Adventures are linear in sory arc with lots of bits to on the side to create the illusion of freedom.

Oblivion is more of a sandbox game where the story was secondary. However, boiware games have aways been about the stories and NPCs with some moral choices thrown in.

I think the way they've designed the fighting is to allow you a lot of flexability. You can take control of your team mates and plan out every step or you can just go in Halo style.

KOTOR was a great game but i always found that it was held back by the star wars licence.

I hope they do make it into a good game; it looks marvellous.

Yes Baldur's Gate is pretty linear. Somehow it doesn't feel as linear as the Bioware games.

All I know is I tried to play kotor and didn't get on with it, thought they'd fixed it with Jade Empire and it was more or less the same game, and so I'm not expecting to enjoy this one. They just don't feel like good games to me.

IMO JE is a crappy RPG, there's not a great deal going on aside from a few plot changes that depend on how you've responded to some people.

If they have entire areas of the game you don't have to play that are side quests then that's great.

Sometimes linear games can be more rewarding. I'm spunking my pants with excitement about Mass Effect, I'm liking the sound of the exploration aspects and I loved KOTOR very much. Bring it on :D

It sounds great, honestly, I'm just being cautious. I'll believe it's a good game when I play it :)

I hate the way Jade Empire is somehow considered lesser to other BioWare RPGs. sure the combat is garbage, but everything else is stellar.

If they manage to get this out before xmas, ms might have a winner on their hands. But i doubt that they will. Id rather have it that they take their time and not rush.

New Mass Effect E3 presentation video

Looks amazing. The animation, reaction of the characters etc.. is top stuff. Like a movie. Combat part was a bit iffy though. Well looking foward to this.
