I tripped down the stairs yesterday while carrying wrapping paper. Dislocated my 4th (ring) finger in three places (at every joint) after hitting it on the rail. Managed to put it back into place (it looked hideous) but the lump in the bsck of my hand crunched whenever I pushed it. Turns out, that was a shattered metacarcel when I finally went over to the hospital.

In a temporary cast but probably need to have my hand pinned and plated as the bone has shattered in multiple places.

At least ten weeks in cast and no gaming. Possibly 18-20 weeks. Fucking fuck. I'd taken my first days off in 10 months to relax over Christmas and catch up on my backlog. I can't even fit a controller in the cast, and I have tried.

Can anyone recommend any decent 'one handed' videogames? I've got Monkey Island 2 in the 360 which I think I should be able to play. Also got Indy Fate of Atlantis on Steam to play on this 5 year old laptop. Other than that, looking for recommendations.

Not the greatest Christmas I've ever had. Even just got PS+ for the first time (90 days)...that'll go to waste.

    Bad news... feel for you.

Not even this would tempt you into a Kinect I guess?! Having said that there are a couple of titles worth a try - fruit ninja, your shape 2012 and HAT... Though not sure how the hand would take it.

Hope the recovery is not too bad. IME plates and pins hurt more than the initial break. That sounds like a pretty long time to be in a cast. I was back playing sports 10 weeks after breaking my arm.

I guess the hand must heal slowly.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

Hand is so fucked that even movement in tha cast is quite painful, so Kinect is probably out of the question.

But it could have been worse. Just bad timing really. Han an unwell father (still unwell) who I wanted to spend time with but I can't drive now making that difficult, very busy work and no time off to myself, so was really looking forward to it. Still, shit happens and it should only be for a few months. Plus I've always previously healed like a mutant, so hopefully I'll heal quicker than they say.

I've got Planescape Torment that I never got into before (I know - shocking) so I'll give that another go.

@Rusty_M It's the way the bone has shattered they said. It's not a clean break, it's like an explosion. It was odd seeing it. Still, hoping that they've exaggerated the recovery and/or I heal quickly.

@Jezmando Ooh, good suggestion. I thought I would need the keyboard for that.

Getting used to this one-handed typing.

I know what you mean about seeing it being odd. I just burst out laughing when I saw my x-ray. I had been told that my arm couldn't be broken as I could move my fingers. The bottom half of my Ulna was at an angle of about 30 degrees, but you couldn't tell externally.

Hurt a bit when they tried to move it back into place, having given me nothing, though it wasn't as bad as I expected.

Edit: walking dead game could be good for you on PC, though there are some QTEs

Same here, although they didn't attempt to move it in place. I did when I got home though. I thought they gave up a little too easily with the cast option, so I pulled my finger up about 1cm (as it had dropped). It hurt but it's stayed there.

Not going to have a knuckle now though, and that did look odd.

@kentmonkey Worms and Xcom!  One of these might help as well:

Kentmonkey - you were lucky to get away with only a slight injury! People die routinely from falling down stairs.

I have a 1920's staircase as well. Very steep, solid construction, no room and a blood solid concrete/brick wall next to it. I was "lucky", so to speak, but still bloody annoying. Timing more than the injury itself.

I'm in work today. Seems as though a lot of the few people who are in thought it was going to be a half day. It's not. Will probably be a full 5.30 finish.

It doesn't really bother me that much. I do like Xmas but I always work it. I'm not back in after new year's eve till Jan 8th. Having that week off I get just relax, get shit done if I need to and places will not be rammed as they are over Xmas.

Got my Xmas eve tradition of going out for a curry with a few mates and then watching Die Hard. The best way to see in Xmas :)

So I'm watching The Terminator on SyFy HD right, and they've only put an ad break in my fav cinema scene of all time, the Tech Noir nightclub scene.  I've drank so much alchyhole today.

@kentmonkey -  sorry about the injury. Further I hope you have a great Christmas despite of it. Do you have netflix? May take a break from gaming and catch up on some tv/movies.

Watching national lampoons Christmas vacation and drinking mulled wine at the moment. Me and the other half have crimbo here and then on boxing day we go to the inlaws and do the whole thing again! I presents, and diner, and the lot.

Got 2lt of baileys for tomorrow ( amoung) fewer other booze so we are set for christmas spirit tomorrow.

Happy Christmas one and all :-)
