I quite enjoyed it! Nice to see a bit of the tardis (though it never makes sense to me that people aren't constantly exploring it). It has the usual plot holes but I've seen way way way worse. The monsters looked quite good too!

That's what I thought. Could have been really good. Instead we get more men in rubber suits. Poo. And next weeks looks rubbish, I hate the stupid potato faced man and the really bad reptile rubber mask lady.

To say that I was looking forward to this episode is something of an understatement - we see precious little of the Tardis as it is so a Tardis-based episode? Amazing!

    Except...

It was awful. Truly terrible. Badly written, hideously acted, most of the dialogue was incomprehensible or drowned out by the stupid music, the whole thing was a pointless disjointed mess.

We didn't need zombie chases. We didn't need drama school reject salvage men (seriously, what did that android subplot even have to do with anything?), we didn't need to spend the entire episode in a corridor with interesting-looking things somewhere off in the distance as you go past.

Awful. My son's written better school essays. What a wasted opportunity.

Yeah, pretty poor as an episode. Bit of squeeing at some TARDIS exposition/exploration.

But they can fuck right off with that Eye of Harmony in the TARDIS bollocks. They Eye was under the Panoptican on Gallifrey. The new series TARDIS gets its power from the universe, as explained in Boom Town and Rise of the Cybermen.

Plot was stupid. Great to see more of the Tardis and yes, it doesn't make sense that with such a remarkable environment we barely ever get to see any of it.

Oh, and I'm very prepared to utterly dismiss any explanation of anything to do with Who from the RTD years seeing as he was a fucking awful hack who seemed to treat sci-fi/fantasy as an excuse to do impossible things with no reasoning other than "because I say so".

I liked it. But then I don't have ridiculous expectations.

Any Netflix library in the world for a couple of quid a month? Gimme!

it to be good is a "ridiculous expectations"?

While its not as bad as some of RTD's era. it was not great and moffat should be doing better as he is in charge now

Being "good" is entirely subjective, though. The ridiculous expectations are that any given episode will do something entirely different to roughly, what, 40 years worth of episodes? (ignoring the 10 years it was neglected by the BBC).

I got confused, I wasn't sure what was going on, but I had no problem with people running around the TARDIS being chased by weird stuff from a leaking timeline, because that sounds *exactly* like a Doctor Who episode to me :)

They've all been fairly shit this series tbh.

There's something about the girl that plays Clara that I don't like either. Something to do with her voice and tone of her delivery that is too cocky/sarcastic that gets right on my tits.

Yeah, I'm really not a huge fan of Clara at all, she doesn't really offer anything interesting to the series and her constant bickering is annoying.

Maybe it's all intentional to set something up... seeing as the Tardis hates her. But I still don't think she is a very interesting character.

same as..hate the new companion. bring back K9 and ditch all this human companion claptrap.

Thinking about it, I think it's the way she speaks in very clipped, inflected sentences.

DW used to be staple Saturday evening viewing for me and my lad. This series we've been content to skip watching it and catch in on iplayer the following day if we can be bothered.

I like the fact she is trying to be brave but is actual quite afraid. I think the episodes perhaps haven't suited her style much.

But one thing I have noticed is that most doctor who fans are NEVER happy with the episodes. I almost ignore most criticism now because even the most perfect episode would have at least one "it was shit" comment

It can never be the mythologically perfect show that fits all of the specific desires of the many types of geek fan. We end up with worst episode ever fever all the time, when anyone with any sense can tell the worst episodes were all RTD ones...

    Ain't that the truth?!

Sadly, every episode this series HAS been shit though ;)

Its not the worst episodes buy you expect better from the show runner who did girl in the fireplace and blink etc. Under RTD it was pretty much shit, his writing style was "Dr pulls out time crystal and ermmmm uses new Dr power and saves the day"

The actress who plays Clara is stunning but her character is smug and annoying from the 1st episode. A better character would of been from 18th century

Who would be your classic character from the 18th century then?

It's tricky, because I think the overall average quality is higher than all but the best RTD series, and the overall plot lines are far better, but some of the weak episodes are letting the show down.

Surely the whole point about Clara is that she acts brave and smug but underneath is scared. I think some people are looking to criticise it rather than looking to enjoy it. It's still one of the best shows on TV, even at its SM worst.

I still think they need to give him a none human companion, or someone with a bit of an interesting background, not just another middle class British girl. Someone from a distant future race that won't approach every alien situation with a mini orgasm, despite the fact that we have been lead believe modern day humans know aliens/monsters exist in the current Who-universe... or was there some kind of big reset button I missed the wiped away all the Dalek invasions and big alien ships that flocked to London every other week?

    Comprehensively? No.

    A bit? No.

In any way shape or form? No.

  • Deleted user 28 April 2013 18:17:13
Don't think so. Oh god this episode was all over the place. I have still got no idea what happened in the last ten minutes. What a complete mess.
