Silence, Weeping Angels, Cybermen, Daleks, those army guys working with the Headless Monks in Demon's Run(?), drama, suspense, action, regeneration...

    Merry Christmas Doctor Who.

Hearing a Dalek saying ' The Doctor is regenerating' is just who-tastic :D

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

Wonder how it will happen though. Will he go suddenly or will it be expected like Tennant's Doctor.

I do so very much hope it's nothing like the Tennant one as I felt that was so overly drawn out and nauseating that it just ruined the whole thing back then.

Am excited to see what's going to happen but sad too as imo Matt Smith has been a superb Doctor.

Capaldi and Moffat were banging on a bit t'other day, and Capaldi dropped the bomb that his Doctor was 2000 years something.

Could the Christmas special take place over hundreds of years in the Doctor's timeline, I wonder?

    Beautiful tender beings.

The Doctor doesn't have a clue how old he is. He's always guessing/making it up. It's one of those things you shouldn't take seriously (especially because the classic series contradicted itself all the time).

According to one of the shows the BBC put out during the anniversary, Smith said his regeneration involved being strung up on stunt wires/a crane or something...

I'd agree with that, I wasn't a huge fan of it. The actual storyline suffered immensely as a result in that episode as things were wrapped up hurriedly in order to allow time for Tennant to say goodbye to everyone.

I'll miss Matt Smith too. He's been a superb doctor, often underrated because he was following in the footsteps of the much loved Tennant.

That looks pretty great! If the "If you want my life, come and get it!" line is anything to go by, it should be quite a different end to Tennant's which I am thankful for. I'm both dreading and excited for this in equal measure now. I don't want Matt Smith to go! :-(

I don't think either Tennant or Smith have done a bad job. Both been good doctors in their own way. I think the problem they've both had though is the writing/story itself. It's been pretty patchy for both of them in some places.

@Soton4084 Glad it wasn't just me who was put off by that ending then. :)

^Wow, that's pretty good. The Doctor's eye lines are bit messed up once they get in the Tardis though (when they're stood by the console talking). It's like he's blind, he's certainly not looking at Sherlock.

I couldn't do any better though, so I can fuck right off \o/

I think Matts stories and Arc's have been much stronger than Tennants who only really got 1 decent season(4)

What an awfully disappointing episode... all felt rushed and very messy to me and the regeneration sequence was very underwhelming.
  • Deleted user 25 December 2013 20:37:16
Well...that was interesting. Great how they tied up it all up, but the sudden regeneration felt a bit weird.

I think I needed to have had an awful lot more to drink to watch that episode because it was probably the most all over the place episode I've seen.

Final ten minutes were good the rest of it just seemed to be mostly pointless.

    This space left intentionally blank.

Yeah there was the trademark emotional build up to it, and then just a sudden cut to Capaldi, really felt very jarring.

The fact we have to wait approximately eight months or more to find out what's next, and that's what they left us with was also a little bland.

    Regeneration was a bit.... Snappy.

I agree with M83, it did all feel a bit rushed at parts, and I was genuinely surprised at "Oh, I was wondering when you'd show up" (or something. Was that what was in his room in God Complex? Heavily implied at least) but it's nice to have some closure on a couple of things.

@Folant yeah, it was. They showed the door and him opening it to see the crack.

I think how they tied it all up was good, it was just the execution that felt off. Really not sure on Capaldi. The sudden drop into him and the way he acted didnt really fill me with confidence. He seems like he's going for the clueless sort of doctor when many saw him being the more gritty and to the point.

    :/

    That was just bollocks.

Well, this feels weird. Normally I'm the one defending stuff on TV.

That was awesome. And kudos for the actual regeneration. Much better than another overly-dramatic fireworks show, especially since we'd just been treated to one the scene before.

Going by what he was saying during the fireworks show, is it safe to say he's been granted a lot more regenerations? And I mean a LOT more.

A new 'cycle' was mentioned. So I'd say another 13 Doctors.

    Until next time anyway.

    I mean, there's 57 at the 100th Anniversary.

A real mess of an episode. Quite the let down after the brilliant 50th anniversary.

I did enjoy how abruptly Matt switched to Capaldi though. Was unexpected and a tiny bit sinister.

Bit of jump there with the regeneration, but an alright episode, just not as good as the 50th. Enjoyable in the glow of chocolate orange overdose.

I'm guessing the Tasha Lem being River Song (?) is going to be a plot point next season.

Sad to see MS go, I thought he was an excellent Doctor, and that is based on the fact that I thought he was toss originaly!

I'm not an uber fan but I would say he is my second fav, maybe joint fav with THE doctor Mt Tom Baker.

"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem! Oh, yeah!"
