Richard O'Brien sometimes reminded me of The Doctor when I was watching some Crystal Maze repeats recently. Rushing about, saying bizarre stuff. Not that I think he'd make a good Doctor now as we're past the point that a zany Doctor like that would be the best way forward. I think what they're seemingly done in doing lots of auditions to cast an unknown is the best way forward.

Richard O'Brien would be a fantastic Doctor. I imagine him having breasts now a days might stop the BBC from casting him though.

    Eh?

... is that an oblivious subtle joke I am completely missing?

To be honest, I would absolutely love them to give William Hurt a series, if only to tell the tale of the time war.
What I'd like to see is a spin-off featuring Hurt. They could take everything down a notch, slow the pacing down, get rid of the incessant music, and stick it on after 9pm on BBC2 or something. Make it a slow, poignant one-off miniseries about about how the Doctor went by another name got involved with some real nasty stuff during a real nasty war. Just leave out ADHD pandering.
Have I missed something along the way or did you mean John Hurt?

How ON EARTH did I not know that?!

... well, I learnt something new today I guess.

Anyways, the person who I think would make a FANTASTIC Doctor is Kenneth Branagh.

    He is a great actor.

Let's not kid ourselves, it's pretty obviously going to be someone young and hip who they can market to the Ameicans.

Nah, the regeneration takes place at Christmas.

I dunno. A venerable, well known British actor is probably as marketable.

Too much baggage and a much bigger salary there though.

I'm not sure that's true sadly. Do bear in mind that Doctor Who has a huge following with the Twilight demographic of teenage girls in America.

So, Richard Madden for The Twelfth Doctor then?

    Could be worth a flutter.

I'd imagine if he did fix it, that would fix the tomb TARDIS too thanks to the rules of Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey. It being a fairly minor thing, it's probably not timelocked or anything like that. Although he never fixed the Chameleon Circuit so he might just leave it anyway as part of the ships charm ;)
Would he really want the Tardis looking like his tombstone for the rest of his natural life?

The future version should have appeared as it does on Gallifrey (after all, it was shown right at the start), that way he doesn't have to make up some nonsense, only that it's just extremely broken.

I hope this doesn't mean I'm bothered more about these things than Moffat.

Been watching Mind of Evil over this week. Babelfish's colourisation of episode 1 is truly remarkable, pretty much indistiguishable from colour material from that era. Superior to the colour recovered, remainder of the story, although all the other episodes are perfectly serviceable. Great story too, the UNIT regulars all shine in this story and I'd put it up with Inferno and Time Warrior as a must see Pertwee.

Russell Brand would be an interesting doctor I think. It might be a disaster though.

You almost had it there in your first and second post, second sentence. It's a fucking awful idea.

    Who cares?

See what I did there? :)

I'm a big fan of Doctor Who but I can't seem to raise an apathetic eyebrow as to who is the next doctor.

Looking forward to the 50th anniversary and then will wait to see who materializes in his own good time. See what I did there? :)

Moffat gets pissy (again), this time over the 50th Anniversary trailer that has just been shown exclusively at Comic-Con:
