Hi, I'm new here. My brother pointed me in the direction of this forum.

I'm looking to buy a pay as you go mobile and, seeing as I don't want to fork out for a MP3 player as well and my music collection isn't huge, I would like it to be able to play music as well.

These are just two of the phones I was looking at:

    Sony Ericsson w800i

    Sony-Ericsson w550i

Anybody got any ideas as to which phone is the best to go with?

No, it just has problems with women, is all.

It's still not a bad phone apparently (although I've not got one myself as I tend to stick to nokia so my old chargers work with it)

I'd like it if it didn't have that orange stripe round it, shame as it spoils a perfectly good phone.
Then try the K750i - bloody good phone, not as orange as the Walkman branded ones but essentially the same. The only difference is in the firmware - the 800i has IIRC a slightly more capable audio player and the ability to switch off the phone radio while leaving the player part on. But the upside - it should be possible to flash a 750i with the 800i's firmware ;-)

I have one, I'm a metrosexual. And I like listening to music on the train. With it firmly hidden in my pocket.

Edit: do you mean switch on the mp3 player function without having the phone on (saving battery)? Cos otherwise I don't really understand.

I've got a W800i and yes it's a bit orange, but then so is Kylie and I wouldn't mind having her in my pocket.

It's a good phone, the MP3 players is good (but the bundled software called Disc2phone or something is awful), the radio is just fine and the camera is a good but has a really, really, really slow shutter response time after you press the button.

Erm, yes, that's what I meant to say (should have used "GSM radio"). Useful for listening to music on planes. At least that's what I remember reading somewhere on the web.

    Ho-hum.

Yep that's correct, exactly how it functions.

My one complaint is that the shutter for the camera is too sensitive, and can easily get knocked open in my pocket, which is rather annoying.

I think I'll probably end up getting the K750i, simply because its cheaper.

Exactly. Its like a "man bag". Functional, useful, but will result in aspersions being cast about your sexuality.

Not that its a bad thing to be gay of course.
