Not when I'm working for a company in another country, no. Do you?

This might be a good place to ask, sorry for bumping an old thread but I need some help (quite important for reasons I can't share yet) but didn't think it was worthy of a new thread.

I basically need to set up an (old?) PC that's going to be capable of playing anything from Future Wars up to Grim Fandango. I don't mind spending the money to buy everything I need, though I know that's going to involve trawling ebay etc.

The main problem as I see it right now is going to be a display. As I recall, running old games on anything (LCD for instance) with a fixed resolution results in them looking like shit because they can't be scaled properly.

What's the best way around that? I assume it's going to be really, really hard to get a decent sized CRT monitor (plus it's going to need to be transported quite some way). What about projectors? Would an old projector work well for this?

Is there a problem running them in dosbox/scummv? Even a VM?

Gremmi made a group called config.sys that has some useful stuff.

I don't really know anything about dosbox / scummv. I'll have a look at that group. Thanks.

Scummv is for Lucasarts point and click emulation and dosbox is a dos emulator.

Uh, maybe I'm ignorant here... but can't you just run all those games on pretty much any modern PC?

I mean, you're not actually "emulating" them, are you? (Not in the sense of console emulation anyway)

Ahh ok, thanks. I'll look into those.

Have you got any thoughts on the display issue? Obviously some of those titles ran in garbage resolutions and I'd like them to look their best (relatively speaking).

I was just looking to see if dosbox had CRT emulation like mame does so you can do this. So far not much.

Hmm, well dosbox has it's own filters that you can use, but they aren't pretty.

I guess the best bet in that case is actually having a play around.

I wonder if going to ridiculous resolutions on a display will help, get the dot pitch as small as possible.

Don't think we've perfected the original Xbox or PS2 yet.

I'd have expected someone to try it, to more of an extent than they did at least. There's such a gulf between that and PS2 emulation anyway (PCSX2 is pretty impressive) - just seems weird.

No it's not, it only had about 3 exclusives that were worth playing.

PS1 and N64 still have a long way to go.

Emulation of current consoles gets more and more complex along with the hardware, we probably won't see working emulators for the ps3 for another 5 years at the minimum.

There's barely much point considering most console games are on PC anyway these days.
