Who's still playing Civ IV here?

    I've just stated as of last night, and thought i'd have a hunt about while at work to see what kind of strategy is being developed...

    These Guys are *hardcore*!

    Is this game going to destroy whatever spare time I have on the PC?

    /hasn't been 'into' Civ since Civ 1 really... What can I expect other than a great game?

    AAAAAAARGH.

    I've been trying and trying and trying to make a decent fist of Civ IV on "Prince", and its bloody frustrating.

    Why is it that units can pillage and move on the same turn?? Why does the balance of attack/defence always seem to be just *wrong*?

    There should be some defensive equivalent to "bombard city"- otherwise its just not fair.

    I figured I'd love Civ 4, I played Civ 1 and 2 to absolute death when I was younger. However I just couldn't get on with Civ 4, I think it was mostly ineptitude on my part really that caused me to give up. I tried several times but I couldn't do well on it much past the first couple of difficulties and then other shinier things came along.

    It's sitting there though, mocking me, one of these days i'm going to master Civ.

    I'm playing a PBEM wiht some other regulars but I've been waiting for about 2 months for my next turn. :/

    Every now and then I give it another go (for about 4 hours or so!) but TBH it's becoming steadily more apparent that it's just too much like hard work. IMO, obviously.

    I still consider the 'Civ' idea as being one of the greatest game ideas ever.

    Arggghh!!! I followed that link to Civfanatics and now I know I'm going to waste MORE time on it in the near future!

    I will never touch CIV4 again. Last time I did that I magically lost 16 hours of my life without noticing it. o_o

    The Civ series has some kind of time sapping magic applied to it, I can't think of any other game which makes me lose track of time as quickly as a civ title. Really wished they made a mobile phone version so when waiting for a train I could apply some of that magic.

    Was thinking of re-installing it the other day, must resist else I'll get no work done at all.

    Well, there is settlers 2 but you are right, there aren't many games that rival it.

    I'm still in the middle of a game of BtS with DDevil and Khani, and if it wasn't for the fact it breaks Warlord saves installing BtS we'd probably still be going strong in our Warlord game we started on release day...

    AoE2 on the DS wasn't bad. Not the best game in the world, but worth a punt.

    That's not to say that CivDS won't be shite. I'm still hoping that it'll turn out aces.

    All they do on the ds is turn perfect game concepts into lazy advance wars clones.

    Nup sorry mate, delayed till july.

    360 and p$3 versions are out on 13th June now too.

    I still play civ 4, i got hold of beyond the sword too which is fun.

    It still comes out every couple of months or so, briefly makes me feel like a strategic genius, then kicks me in the balls and leaves me weeping in the gutter. I'll love her forever though.

    I love it to death. It's sad how much better playing on earth maps is than the randomly generated ones though.

    I love it to bits until the 1000-1500 AD era or thereabouts. Then it either turns into a micromanagement nightmare or diplomacy goes all lopsided on me again.

    Can't recall when I last finished a game of CIV but it must've been a year ago at least :-/

    Just been playing Beyond the Sword and would really recommend it. It provides such natural extras to Civ IV they just fit so snugly into the game.

    Took two days off work, the sun was out and there's me worried about my 400 year war with bloody Bismarck.

    who doesn't play civ IV. its the best, ok one of the best strategy games of all time. plus beyond the sword really expanded it. actually any one no any recent great civ0like games.

    I'd suggest we started an 8 player BtS game via email but last time we did that we didn't even get round once before the turn got lost.

    daft as this may sound i only wish there were more steps in the 1100-1800 AD period. There isn't really time enough to have as many fights as i would like. Even on Epic mode.

    I would still be playing it if my PC didn't decide to have some kind of spasm where it now decides to make the game crash constantly.

    Soon as I get back to England I'll be installing and playing CivIV. All I've been playing since I left are FPSs, but recently I've just not been playing any. It's been 12 days since I last played an FPS

    I always have it installed and at times I go on long Civ periods, when I spend almost all my free time playing it. Then I cool off for a while, then I start again. It's still my favorite current game.

    I'm up for Civ games. Obviously being 5 hours behind GMT marks me as special, but as my boss is out of town for another week I can play from around 6pm till 11.

    I pretty much always have an SP game on the go of some sort. Playing my first ring map and digging it.
