Absolutely loving this game at the moment and got it today (Alpha 152 isn't very hard, btw :p) but countering seems very hard. I've only managed a few counters and it's definitely a sticking point.

Anyone got any advice for good countering?

I'm finding it hard to get to grips with it on this one too. No such problems on previous versions though. It seems like the timing is on a little bit of a knife edge.

Heh heh, this drunk guy with the white hair's great. The cutscene for him fighting Alpha 152 is hilarious. :D

Brad was one of my favourites in DOA3.

There's a 7 pages strategy guide on 1up.com, detailing countering techniques and how to read combos.

I didn't have DOA3 and he didn't put in an appearance in DOAU, IIRC. Very fun character though.

Is the guy that does the voice acting for Brad the same person that does Solid Snake?

That's the idea. They halved the frame window in which you can counter, it shouldn't be a surprise that you take longer to get the timing down.

Cheers, I'll give that a read.

Beating Alpha as Ryu is frickin impossible.
  • Deleted user 31 January 2006 21:11:25
Beat the bitch after about 15 goes.
  • Deleted user 31 January 2006 21:39:39
Not if you have a short temper.

I think I've been here for about half an hour just fighting Alpha and haven't come close to victory.

It's all about which character you choose. If I'm Ayane, Alpha stands no chance. If I'm Bass... I get owned.

I was Zak. Beat her there after about 30 goes (I'm not joking). That said, when I beat her I was so happy. :)
  • Deleted user 31 January 2006 21:48:49
Yeah, with Hitomi I beat her first time.

Sorry, Kasumi. Haven't done it with Hitomi yet.

It isn't button mashing if you're playing against someone decent.

You could call all beat em ups button mashers.

Yep, button mashers lose every time. You really need to know when to use what attack, and try to predict your opponents attack patterns and learn the different components to their combo's. It's quite tough in that respect.

Not a game for the mashers really. the very subject of the tread soon puts paid to that.

Not for me. I play the same way I always do - careful planned attacks and combo's. Be the same character over and over, learn all their moves and learn the counters to as many of the other characters combo's as possible. Takes a lot of work.

Oh and MK II is legendary! Absolutely loved that as a young 'un.

    Stage 7, Hitomi, the cutscene.

Anyone whose seen it will know what I'm talking about.

"That was a little cruel, don't you think?"
    Yes, considering dinosaurs are EXTINCT.

I've completed the game with all the characters so all the cutscenes blur together for me!

Is that the one where she's at the market and they have a fight over who gets the vegetable?

    EDIT: I guess not.

So why are you here telling us it's button mashing in the later stages when you have no clue what you are on about?
