For once, not a typo, but Crytek's new game.

Scans here.

I read the article now - apparently, all characters have a memory for what you did - how you fought in battle, if you hurt any teammates, how you treat people - not sure how it's going to work. Lots of side-stories you can influence with your actions.

It's about a conflict between the US and Korea when suddenly aliens attack. Ha. :p

There's also an ice cannon - in the first scan, you can see how the jungle has frozen. All happening in real-time with DX10 and PS 4.0 support.

Release Q4/2006.

It'll be interesting to see how the destruction works and whether it keeps the graphical style intact, at the moment it looks the bomb.

Holy Crap!!
Sold.

Loved every frustating-pain-in-the-ass-its-too-difficult second of far cry. If this is half as good...

But what kind of hardware needed are we looking at? My 6600 would not even see out this year at this rate.

Also wasn't there a video floating around showing off the DX 10 capabilities of the engine? If anyone can find that it'll be much aprreciated. I only found a crappy quality one.

O_O

Wow, that looks stunning.

Think I'll definatly be upgrading sooner than I thought.

DX10 is Vista only though isn't it? Be interesting to see the jump between DX9/10 and SM3/4.

Looks like Gamestar (the mag from which the scans were) flexed their muscles. Can't be long now till we see some real screenshots though.

Hey guys-

We put together a bullet-point translation of the recent Gamestar interview over at Gamehelper.com:

From the article:
There will be a high degree of interactivity with the environment. For example, if you shoot a tree then it falls down and you cant hide behind it anymore [unless a player lies down], if a tree falls across a road a jeep cant drive across it, but a tank can. They (the trees) can fall on someone’s head and kill or injure them. It is a very complete game (world). If a tree lies across the road then the AI knows this and stops the jeep, the ability to destroy the world is not just a side story but is crucial to game play.

Hopefully this might answer some more of your questions! :)

I shudder to think a) what the specs are going to be like and b) what sort of monsters they've throw in to fuck an otherwise good game up.

According to the Edge article I read - they're concentrating on more of the gameply people liked. i.e. Open air shooty shooty and less tedious killing slimy things in corridoors.

I recommend picking it up this month - interesting read.

Better then what you have now and it looks like a giant mutant spider of sorts, possibly robotic but it's too dark to see.

The IGN preview someone linked to today said they (Crytek, not IGN) are well aware that people like the open terrain and the AI more than the indoor stuff and the mutants, and are building the new game around that.

The specs though, yes. Hohum. I guess Vista will be a good excuse to upgrade. :)

Hopefully it will scale to the same degree that Oblivion appears to have done (I say this without playing the game but forum chatter suggests it's true). Though the obviously engine will look nicer on Vista with DX10, it will also run on XP with DX9.L, which will be that OS's equivalent of DX10.

/crosses fingers

Nah. Oblivion Engine's scaling is broken when you wan't to actually push it to maxium detail.

Crytek have said that they won't make sacrifices on visual detail with the new game - high end PC's or don't play it.
