At one point I had 4 security guards and 2 scientists following me about. It was a shame to leave them behind when I made my way to the surface. Don't think I ever had more than 1 or 2 following me in the original.

You can get exactly the same as that in the original.

I think I never got more than two because I was terrible at keeping everyone alive way back when.

Too busy running from baddies to notice the vent. It's all coming back now. Reached the offices.

Forgot how much I hated the air acceleration in Half Life.

Sprint and crouch jumping can fuck right off.

The jumping in this is really hit and miss, as are the ladders. Pressing E to get off the ladders is often the only way to avoid a plunge to your death, but it's markedly worse than the original.

Gray, if you're talking about the part where you have to go down a load of suspended crates, you don't have to jump for most of it, you walk off from one to another.

They're using the ladder exit function entity (can't recall the exact name). When you hit the top or bottom of a ladder, if you are facing the general exit direction it'll kick you off to a safe spot. No need to jump or hit E. But if you're used to not having this happen you end up fighting it and that's when the falling happens. It's the same way as how the ladders in HL2 onwards works, although I think Valve deployed it better, taking into account its downsides.

I'm using an Xbox controller, works great. The stupid crouch jumping is not a problem.

This is better than Half-Life 2.

    Just throwing that out there.

Marine AI could use some tweaks IMO, they can spot you if you so much as show your foot and they're far too deadly at long ranges.

didn't spend too long but wasn't able to get the zipped version to work in steam despite having the sdk and also creating a shortcut with the correct steamid to try and start it.

Remember reading the Edge review way back when and being extremely irritated that I disnt have a PC. Of course I bought one and.loved the game so looking forward to this update.

    Yes :).

I've just come across my first apache, died and had a crash. Only the first I've had thankfully.

I'm having trouble getting rid of the tentacles. I've powered up the silo, but cannot find access to the oxygen/fuel :s It's been great so far, though!

EDIT: Never mind! I think I found it! Silly me!

Shit knows how many times I've played Half Life since it came out but it never seems to get old for me.

This is fantastic and I would have happily paid for it.

Not enough cutscenes for my liking and there's no indication of where I'm supposed to be going.

If BM had a dune buggy to drive along a large stretch of road, while exploring houses and killing dropships, you would have been right.

I'm going to pay 25 for Doom3 with a lick of paint this year and yet thanks to Valve and some very dedicated volunteers I get to play this for free.

And what a lick of paint it's been given!

Certain locations when it all comes together makes me think that this might actually be the best looking Source Engine game to date.

Fuck I take that back the tentacle monster was never this frustrating. I can't even get out the door without it killing me straight away. It doesn't help that the walk key isn't working at all.
