Cool insight Disc, ta. Is there anything in particular that you notice for you to spot the Unreal engine post-processing ?

Batman and Borderlands are two totally different game art direction wise but maybe the little details that link it to the engine that is used underneath add to the "atmosphere" somewhat so it could be a little bit of both.

Be it art direction or engine many source games I have played have a similar "feel" to them that i like.

SSAO was good in crysis and stalker, shit in everything else I've seen. I don't like it. It can fuck off with screen edge motion blur.

Oh and speed tree can fuck off too.

Yeah, will believe it when I see it. Nothing against those guys, its not like they are getting paid or owe us anything but still its been a while.

I honestly think Valve should have taken this onboard and released it with EP3 as a "Complete Half life pack" incl HL2 and the other episodes in it.

    Valar morghulis.

Valve tend to be wary of taking on mod teams if they, you know, haven't released anything...

Erm so the Portal team and Left 4 Dead team weren't included in that theory? as both of these started out as mods just like this.

    They both actually released something.

Which was kind of his point.

    What did they release?

Left 4 Dead was Turtle Rock i think and they did a few CSS maps. Portal team made a game but not with the Source engine before they came to Valve.

Turtle Rock did the console releases of Counterstrike, along with that shitty standalone one, Zero or whatever it was.

The Portal team did Narbacular Drop.

Point is, both were proven beyond just putting up screenshots every once in a while for a mod that's now running into its...what...5th year of not being released?

    You are correct :)

Seems Turtle Rock have now left Valve though.

Bet it's Valve's Christmas Present to us all this year. I can imagine them doing it that way. They must be helping them out a little.

Even if it comes out its not as though the Source engine is going to impress like it would have 5 years ago. It might just feel like a slightly-less-dated Half Life.

    bump

That's the vibe I get from most of these pictures.

For fuck's sake, just play Half-Life Source. There'll be no fucking difference except for some nicer textures. What's the point of this game?

Half-life Source is not Black Mesa Source

This is the sort of project that should have been signed up by Valve as an official mod, which is what happened to counter strike and day of defeat. That way they'd receive professional help to finish it and may have released earlier, when Source was still quite hot.
