Did a search on the forums, but couldnt find anything on this amazing HL2 mod. For those who havn't been following its development, its a remake of the first Half Life using the source engine.

Its an incredibly proffesional job involving many people, and actually looks like its going to get finished. To get an idea of the quality, check a few of these screenies...

Looks fabulous. I wonder if they'll keep the original voice acting though... those scientists are just perfect as they are.

Well, hopefully it'll be better than Valve's efforts for HL:Source. RAGDOLLS AND NICE WATER ZOMG

Euh ... so a mod of HL in the source engine?
Didn't Valve actually port HL to the Source engine themselves?

    I must be missing something.

edit: judging by Gremmis post I am missing something

Check the home page - HL:S was all the original assets moved into Source. This is a complete rebuild of the game to match the fidelity of the Source engine.

As Gemmi hinted at all they really did was port it over to the source engine which added stuff like the ragdoll, the physics etc. But all the assests, art work models etc stayed the same.

This is a proper update with all of that being redone by the looks of it.

Hopefully this will mean I finally get around to playing it.

Yes, I know that's bad but i've never completed HL. Started playing it on the PS2, and even started playing it through Steam when I finished HL2, but I never really got too far.

Yeah, Valves effort was literally just a straight port with source water effects. Which obviously sucked quite a bit, BM Source, is a total remake from the ground up. Some textures, models and audio are being re-used, but everything else is being rebuilt from scratch. They are very concious of staying true to the original, and not changing a great deal, but as you can see from the shots, they have embelished and added details of their own.

It's not really worth finishing. It's dated - the enemies are visible before their AI kicks in (i.e. when they get line of sight to you) so you can usually hit them with a cunning shot before they can even start thinking. Good for the story though. The latter sections of the game still suck.

    Hmm, don't sound to good.

It's just I love my FPS games and HL seems to be one of the classic PC games everyone talks about. Plus the Steam version is sat on my HD and part of the reason for me paying for the silver package was to play through some of the older games.

like I say though hopefuly this BMS update will make me get around to it.

Considering they've been at it for two years and are about a third of the way through the game, it'll take a miracle if we see it before HL3 comes out.

Possibly. The dam is about half way through i spose, so there's a chance we'll see it before 2010.

Those shots of the dam are pretty old though, they say on the front page they're now at the play testing phase, although how much they have to test is another matter I spose.

I seem to remember reading that Valve have given thier approval for this mod, so hopefully it will not suddenly disapear under a NDA.

Emporio (the group that cracked HL2) released a stolen beta of the game a few months back, which apparently pissed off the developers somewhat. From what I read the beta was VERY unfinished and a lot of people took that as "evidance" that thier mod was not as advanced as they claimed.

Nice to see they are still working on it tho.

Funny you should mention that, I've just opened up Steam and the little news sectioned popped up mentioning Black Mesa winning Best Upcoming Mod of the Year and that even the guys at Valve are looking forward to playing it.

I've been looking forward to playing the first 3/4 of this for ages, glad it's still in development. They can not bother with the last few alien world levels as they felate capricans and really annoy me.
