Could still be alright, if they just remember it's a new universe and they can do whatever they heck they like. Yes, some stuff is destined to happen and all that, but there's nothing to stop them doing a properly new story. Heck, even without it being in another universe it was a 5 year mission, so there were plenty of adventures that never made it to TOS or TAS.

Just do something new. That's all it needs. New stuff. NEW.

Agreed. Into darkness was a blast. Pure classic kirk, but enough of the homage. The nest one can stand on its own legs. Would be interesting to see a reference to the civ they influenced in into darkness.

Because he wants Spock Prime's knowledge of Khan from the future.

I'd say that was less important. Or do both! But backup first!

Saw this the other day, can't believe how bad it is. Lowest common denominator stuff for the entirety of the film, it's cringeworthy on many occasions. I don't know what happened, the first was a decent space action/adventure film, this one is just shite.

I watched it again too. The KHAAAAN part is so bad. Not even so bad it's good like Shatners overacting. Just shit really.

Simon Pegg was recently interviewed about some of the films criticism, and basically said "fuck off" if you don't like it (some fans rated it the worst film in the series, which is incredibly harsh).

It would be nice if they stopped giving blow jobs to the star trek canon they desperately wanted to crap on with the first film.

But they just copied famous scenes and plotlines from old ST films and tried to hash them into this shit storm of a film.

Absolute garbarge tbh. I don't expect any remotely interesting sci-fi moments, just random action sequences strung together with shit 'emotional' scenes and few old ST stuff re-hashed.

Well yeah they need to get on with their own canon.

You know when you find it out the person is Khan it didn't even register with me it was the character from Wrath of Khan. Couldn't have been very engaging or important.

Ha, Bones. Oh god Simon Pegg your so shit as Scotty, something loud, blah de blah, boom! bash boom, scotty snooze, underwear for some reason. To the bad guy! Nice piercings. Lets do this, bang bang bang bang bang bang bang, switch, tears, bang bang bang bang, so obvious that would work, lets explore, the end.

I keep expecting Scotty to trip over a rug or maybe some marbles left out, and for the Engineering team to jolly-ly laugh at him, ahohoho!

I don't have a problem with Scotty. Most annoying thing is how Kirk is such an asshole the entire time. Also he looks cross-eyed all the time which is really off-putting.

I know it's a bit late, but the Star Trek Enterprise Pilot is just debuting on German quality TV...

Is the series really as bad as this? Our redneck shotgun ways are superior to your logical Vulcan crap?

I thought TOS episodes with punching in between cheap papier-mache rocks and haunted castles was bad. Or TNG episodes with juveniles being sentenced to death in California for falling into a flower bed, or playing Robin Hood, or entering a bad-novel casino hotel.

Or two thirds of Voyager episodes.

Please tell me the Enterprise series is not as bad as this. Please.

It gets better, but only eventually and you have to sit through a lot of crap first.

    A LOT.

You could skip to the good bits but then 'good' becomes 'meh' because you lack context and don't care about Sam Beckett, hot Asian pointlessness, Vulcan impossibra with 24/7 access to rapid ageing drugs, the good ol' boy in the engine room and a black guy and an English guy who do nothing more than rip off their Galaxy Quest pisstakes, so hard.

Oh, and Neelix now he's through medical college. Super.

I only just recently finished watching Enterprise in full as I got the box set. I was (still am really) massively into Trek when it came out but for some reason I never really got into it and it just fell off my radar after a while. I was wary of watching it for the longest time because of all the negativity it gets and my hazy memories of it, but I really did enjoy it from start to finish and I don't get the hate. It has a few stinker episodes, but so do all Treks, and while the first couple of seasons aren't the best, I think they're the best two seasons of any modern Trek there have been. TNG didn't get good until S3 IMO when they got the proper uniforms, DS9 didn't get good until they got the Defiant, and Voyager didn't get good until they got Seven in. Season 3 of Enterprise IMO stands as one of the best Trek seasons there has ever been, and it's a real shame it was cancelled after really hitting its stride.

(Broad brushstrokes but) TOS was carried by the concept, TNG was carried by the acting, DS9 was carried by the setting and Voyager was carried by the scripts. Yes, not in every case.

Enterprise wasn't really carried by anything.

Enterprise was shit until Season 4 where Rick Berman & Brannon Braga stepped back after shitting all over and running ST into the ground. The whole xindi (zindi?) war was so forced and pulled out of their arses to copy ds9 and failed miserably

edit: Voyager was a missed opportunity and could of done something different but no it was bland

What I liked about it was that more than other series it dealt with more complex issues like puzzling spacetime anomalies, crystal lifeforms and the sort. But yes, all would have been crap without Patrick Stewart.

Anyone know when the 2009 one is next on TV? Trying to educate the Mrs in the ways of the trek.... And First Contact for that matter.

It's really poor. You can see the thinking behind the producers in every scene, it's damaging. It's basically the same film as the first one, only worse. Bad guy is out for revenge, Kirk needs to get to the captains chair, Spock is a robot without emotions that has emotions, Bones and Scotty exist purely to reguritate lines that were in the original Star Trek series. Every character is one dimensional, the story is terrible, the acting is terrible, it's just an awful, awful film. I can't believe people can watch this and not think it's rubbish. And I LOVED Star Trek 2009. This one does nothing though, it didn't build on ST2009, it copied it and did a worse job. Load of shite.

I was very wary of it but took a chance and ended up loving it.

I can understand the hatred from some though (can't use spoilers on my phone) but I don't fall into that bracket (for reasons that I can explain without spoilers lol).

What's with the scene where the Dr strips to her underwear?!?

Apart from that I really enjoyed it, got a bit rubbish in the final twenty minutes but still rate it.

    Last one was better though.

The hatred really comes across as desperate to not like it though.
