It's more than that, the whole shape is wrong. It's as if the nacelles have pulled into the secondary hull, there's pretty much no evidence of nacelle pylons, and there's no neck to the saucer either.

    Look at the image here.

Edit: Could just be incomplete FX. And the ship that crashes into the water later in the trailer looks a damn sight more like the Enterprise, although as I said earlier it isn't the same ship as in 2009 Star Trek.

The more they used the Borg the worse they got for me. They were at their very best when they first appeared and then they could not leave them alone. I actually did not like them in First Contact. I thought the Borg episodes in TNG were much better. They really reached their height in The Best of Both Worlds and should have been finished with at that point.

Why would it have the NCC prefix?

Beat me to it: the original was the SS Botany Bay.

Anyone with the IT skillz able to get caps of the later ship crashing into the water?

@mcmonkeyplc possibly the same reason that Cumberbatch is wearing the black uniform kirk wore when he was aboard enterprise with no real job? Artist license?

I still think he's Gary Mitchell personally. It just fits so much more. And khan in the second movie seems too obvious for me.

    Or, it's Charlie X

There's a quote from the page I linked to:

a member of Star Fleet has turned and left the world in a state of crisis

Could be just as unsupported as the Mail bullshit, but that paragraph reads like press release cut-and-paste. If so, not Khan.

    So my guesses are
    Gary Mitchell
    Charlie X
    Zefram Cochrane

Great news, they added Lindelof to the writing team, whereas before it was two other guys who did Transformers, arguably dodged a bullet right there, now for Lindelof bring the real pain.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. Written by Paramount Pictures
    From IMDB!

So whoever it is, it's being modelled on the Joker from TDK. A modern twist so to speak.

This is neither the reimagined Enterprise nor the ship rising from the sea. Compare the background to the earlier spaceship shot - this is in a bay, that is in the open ocean.

Caveat: unless there's some severe and very weird foreshortening / distortion going on. The pylons curve up and across, the nacelle is small and square in cross section. Plus the ship barely fits into the bay, so it's going to be proper fucked.

Woah woah woah! The Borg was ruined by voyager. I think there's still potential there. First Contact was a great film.

Far better than the obvious Klingons we'll get in the next.
The Klingons are in this (was confirmed a while back). It's who BC is fighting when he does his super leap. They are wearing the same getup as they were in Star Trek (see deleted scenes).

    Side by side.

    The earlier Enterprise for comparison.

    OK, I'll stop now.

I'm guessing that something causes all of the ships to be pulled towards earth and they all end up faceplanting in various ways.
Enterprise rising up is when they get their power back/whatever to go and kick some ass after having crashed themselves.

So a Star Trek 'announcement trailer' without the Enterprise or space...

Trailer proper had better be ... better.

@Scurrminator it was the deleted scenes which made me believe they'd be somewhere.
I didn't realise they were in this one.

If it's Khan then the scene at the start with the old planes could simply be a flashback to the Eugenics Wars, that led to him being exiled.

My look back at one of the best sequels ever: Uncharted 2.

Wait there's people out there who are thick enough to think the ship rising out of the water is the same ship that's crashing at the end?

Lindelof worked on the first as well; that's why he's back for this.
