I grabbed this as it was cheap and I couldn't resist, however I had my eye on the GOTY edition.

    Am I gonna miss much?

Jesus how shit was this game. The storyline was poor. It does not take long to become The Ruler Of Albion, after that all you do is make decsisions that speed up the arrival of The Darkness creature. Once you easily beat it thats the main quest over.

    utter shit.

From one extreme to the next...after buying this at release ive only just got round to playing through it. Brilliant game, its about as deep as a puddle gameplay wise but the world, characters and little nuances you encounter more than make up for it. Half the fun is wandering round interacting with the npc's and seeing what random situations you can get yourself into...like when my second wife accidentally came in contact with my third wife and they had a bit of a squabble...or when i managed to get 5 people to follow me into a house i'd just smashed open for a orgy only to be fined for breaking in and trespassing after the party had ended...or how everyone calls me Nobhead with such happiness in their voices.

Im on the last mission of the main story but im achievements grinding at the mo. If anyone has all the dolls you need to collect so i can join a game for the achev i'd be most grateful.

Received this yesterday from the very generous Trafford, so major props and a big thanks to him :).

Anyway I never really got into the first game despite owning it for ages, not quite sure why, just never clicked with it. However I've played a few hours of this and I love it! Found the mechanics and controls much easier to grasp than I did in the first game, and although the combat is pretty simplistic and is very easy, the sheer amount of stuff you can do has me at a loss. When I first got to Bowerstone I spent a good hour just running around and exploring the place, talking to people, doing some blacksmith work and looking in the shops that I found. The world looks beautiful and I've really taken to the art style this time around. The social interactions are a pretty cool feature, and a few of the cutscenes and NPC conversations have given me a chuckle.

Playing the good guy as I usually do first time around in these moral choice based games, though I may stray from the path a little bit once in a while (I like a bit of vengeance-fuelled indiscriminate rage!). I like how I can buy my UID as my title too \o/, though I think I'll go down the 'becoming champion of the colliseum' to get it, whenever I find out where that is and how to do it. Can't wait to get enough money to buy a house, a business and some fancy clothes (gotta get that noble gents' outfit for sure!) either, then watching the cash roll in. The idea that it continues when you're not playing sounds a bit naff though, I'm guessing if I leave it a few days then come back to it I'll be absolutely rolling in cash, which sounds a tad boring.

I got back on the main quest after my exploring, though I understand it's relatively short, so I'll take every opportunity to go off exploring in new towns and settings, maybe do some gambling, get married (I've read that this can affect the plot too, which sounds great) and all that kind of jazz. Just finding it very fun and enjoyable overall, and the idea of living this character's life which is affected by the choices you make rather than just simply playing as the character is great!

The main quest will probably take you between 10-12 hours if you just go straight through. There are plenty of side-quests and other activities to get yourself involved with, though.
