Yeah, I have different settings for every source, but my Sony has different settings for each source, and eight different scenes for each source as well. So I'm usually only two button presses away from perfect Blu-Ray/Gaming/DVD viewing. Nothing I do makes SD TV look nice though. Smears like a total bastard, presumably because the source isn't good enough for the TV.

Be wary of 37" though as they appear to be the bastard-child sets. From the comments on numerous sites, out of all the sizes, the 37" seem to suffer the most from whatever foibles the sets are known for. Apparently Sony don't make 37" screens, for instance, and license them out to a third party and they're just not as good as the 32" or 40" versions.

Also, for me anyway, the bigger the screen the more I noticed any judder/smearing/motion blur, so I ended up being very happy with my 32" which is approx 6" larger in terms of visible screen size than my last tele.

kendoji, that's further away than me. Settle on a 37", you'll regret it otherwise. You get very used to the screen size very quickly. I'm kind of regretting not pushing for a 42" screen as it is!

Argh, so I'll regret getting a 32 incher cause it's too small, I'll regret getting a 37 incher cause it will have weird problems, and I'll regret getting a 40 incher cause I'll see nothing but smearing and motion blur. :-/

    Why can't this be simpler...

Simple. Buy a 6" TV and say it's bigger. Isn't this what every bloke is meant to do?

Do what I did. Go into a store. measure out (roughly, not with a tape measure, unless you want to be carried away) how far back to stand so that it's similar to your viewing distance at home, and watch the footage. Start at the 32" and work up, then work back down again, and settle on a size that's comfortable.

I originally had a 40" as I didn't do the above and it was far too big when I got it home, so I took it b;ack and got a full refund. That was 18 months ago, it's taken me this long to go HD since! :o)

Buy a projector, then resize the screen accordingly.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

A colleague of mine can get me discounts on Phillips tellies. They're rubbish, though, aren't they?

New ones get great reviews, especially for motion. I think they're meant to be very good now, in all honesty. At least their mid-top range ones are.

Yeah I've done some more reading, and I think a 40" should be fine for my living room after all. I'll plonk myself down in front of some in a shop this week to be sure though. :)

I sit 8 feet away from my 32" and that's perfect for me. The 40" made my eyes bleed at that distance, but everyone's different.

Holy shit, I'm only about 3 metres away from my 42".

It's possibly a touch close, but I really don't have an issue with it.

42" teles are the future. I sit about 8 or 9 foot away from mine and it's fine. Hell, I was sitting in front of 50 inch teles yesterday at the Expo and it was fine to play on a controllers cable stretch away.

Distances like you were sitting at, during the EG expo motti, might become an issue with the advent of HD-3D tv's though. Still that's a debate for at least a year or two down the line.

Argh I've started looking at the Panasonic G10. It's rather good, isn't it?

I'm sure they're fine, as long as you don't have a light issue like I have.

Essentially my eye lets in too much light, probably like an overexposed camera, so not only does light really hurt, but it can also bleed causing me to get a lens flare effect. Night time driving for me is not fun, the back of my eye feels like it'll explode whenever a headlight comes into view. I get a minor version of that with a bigger TV or a brightly lit TV.

I probably wouldn't mind a huge set otherwise, although I am a bit of a tart in that I like the house looking nice and I just don't think a dominating TV does that.

    /minces off

Did look it earlier. Don't know anyone that owns one but it looks a step above my PX80 which I love

I'm actually veering more to the S10 now, which is a steal at 650 Euros for 42".

Ah, that's an LCD innit? Personally, I prefer plasmas. Fuck the environment. :)

So my main sofa is too far at 11ft (about 4m) away from my TV? Espcecially considering it's a 26" at the mo!

We do have a tv that's closer at around 6ft (2m) away. Do you think I should move one of them? I think I might move the sofa a tad bit closer, it's up against the wall at the moment.

That graph thing showed that I need a 93" TV to get the full benefits of 1080p!

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Nope it's a plasma. The X10 is their cheapest plasma, which is HD Ready but you can get a 42" for about 500 Euros - and according to the reviews it offers absurd quality for the money. The S10 is one step up, and is Full HD. I'd like to see one in a shop, but nobody puts plasmas on display any more, as apparently nobody buys them!

Yeah me too - I'm finding all of this way too confusing. I might give up on TV altogether and take up knitting instead.

Ah OK, must've mis-googled. I say go for it, those of us with Panny plasmas love them.

Ok, so I'm going to order the 42" Panasonic X10 plasma today. It's only 720p, but by all accounts I'll never be able to tell the difference, and at only 500 Euros it's an absolute steal. Should be an improvement on my ancient crappy CRT. :-)

    Purchased. :S

Something odd happened when I put in my new flats address, in town I put down Putney, cause that's the town name and I put London down as the county. Amazon corrected it to just London. They should still get the right address cause of the post code, just odd. I suppose London isn't a county.

I live in Putney but Amazon corrected the order to London?

    Come and get it cumslingers!

I just placed my order too! 630 Euros for a 42" plasma with 5 year warranty including delivery isn't bad!

I just hope it doesn't suck!
