    Sickbeard comes in various flavours but I couldn't get the standard windows binary to work correctly so used source version running via python

    I've decided to drop the XP installation now tho and I'm going to dive into linux and create more permanent NAS/download box

    The NAS option is fairly easy to set up. I did one with a qnap TS-110, the python apps come in exceutable file formats. Couch Potato is sickbeard for films and worth having.

    figgis, what is the performance like on that ?

    I was going to go with a dedicated NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS Duo) but after some research I discovered posts saying that the cpu on it is a bit limp (266mhz sparc based). It seems that it can't download faster than 4mb and I'm guessing also that verifying/repairing and unrar'ing batters it

    For another 100 notes I also considered the ReadyNas Ultra which has a 1.8ghz atom but I'm reluctant to chuck over 300 notes at it if the performance sucks compared to the old laptop I've currently got setup.

    You can't run ps3 media server or transcode hd stuff on it, Twonky works fine. If you want to watch HD stuff on your telly get a media center or a WDTV. As for performance it's on all the time so speed of processing is unimportant to me (it does basic stuff fairly fast). I've got a 20meg virgin connection and SABNZDBD runs full speed unraring and deletion of files is done automatically. Using it as a network drive in win 7 with no major lag.

    The TS-110 120 plus extra hard drive required, might be worth getting the two disk one as I have a spare usb hd for backup.

    interesting. I've just been looking at some synology ones and also at a qnap 210 turbo ... 140 on ebuyer

    the qnap seem nearly 100 for comparable spec. Cheers figgis, think you might have me convinced :-)

    I haven't been disappointed in mine. Check the Q-nap forums for a list of currently supported applications, you will also find easy to install application packages that are a piece of piss to get up and running.

    I well confused now. I've just been on the Qnap forums and there was a post on there saying that you'd get max 4mb out of the DS-210 turbo.

    do you definately max the 20mb line ?
    I want to hit about 10mb, half of my line speed throughout the day and then schedule it to open up during the night for the full 20mb.

    well my test was to get this up and running on linux and by god have I.

    apart from a very brief flirtation with ubuntu about 4 months ago i really am new to this linux lark but i've currently got linux mint up and running on the old laptop and i must say its quick.

    i've installed ssh and locked it down for me and me only.
    vnc for when i want to see the goings on, although this looks a little buggy
    webmin is on but not configured yet
    sabnzbd is up and running and working like a dream, refresh rate is amazing
    sickbeard is working like a dream
    couchpotato is yet to be setup but shouldn't be too hard.

    browsing the webpages for these things is like lightning compared what it was like on the old winxp install.

    Now that I am setup I can actually add the large hds as they just mount as media/ .... like this :thumbs:

    Nearly missed this post - nice one! Especially as my net connection is about 1.5Mb at best, it can pretty much replace my pay-per-gig astraweb connection.

    Sorry mike, not been on here for a while otherwise I'd would have helped you out. Yes wow it is amazing. Once you have Sab and sickbeard setup you might like to try couchpotato.

    Got them all running on an Ubuntu server/laptop and its amazing. I get a random emails while at work letting me know that something has been downloaded/renamed/stored and catalogued ready for viewing on the appletv.

    I don't have access to newzbin now cos I'm on sky so I use nzbmatrix. 7 gets you a lifetime membership and access to the apikey you need for sickbeard

    A little confused here - I thought couchpotato was just another application like sickbeard? Or does it do something different? Why would you have them both running at the same time.

    Apologies if I'm being thick (probably).

    @brokenkey

    7 days, if you're lucky. You have to grab what you're after pretty much when it comes out - or you run the risk of having to mess around with PARs to get the whole file. Just a case of checking several RSS Feeds every day for TV / DVDRips / R5's and grabbing them asap :)

    Another quick one, should I be using sickbeard or sabnzbd to post process the files and what is arecommended way of setting all that up?

    Sick beard if you can, it's a bit temperamental sometimes. Best thing to do is install the latest version of sabnzbd and then sickbeard from scratch.

    sickbeard to post process. you setup a tv category (actually call it what you like) and then point to the SabToSickbeard.py in the AutoProcessTV directory.

    once sab has downloaded, extracted etc it will hand off the download to this script.

    configure this path in sabnzbd.ini :-
    script_dir = /home/stuart/.sickbeard/autoProcessTV

    Then configure in sickbeard postprocessing page

    Yeah. No idea about retention, it's the same servers you'll get access to with any other usenet access anyway.
