Given the day's events I thought I'd try out the VyprVPN access a diamond account provides, it's rather nice to be able to use Hulu now. :-)

Yep. Rarely download corrupt or password protected files. Usenet doesn't give me any more grief in that regard than torrents do.

I only started with Usenet properly about a month ago, and I've pretty much moved over completely from torrents. I guess it depends what you're downloading but I've not had a single case of what you describe. Everything has been exactly what it said on the tin and arrived sooooo much faster than a torrent.

Me too, when Newzbin isn't playing nice, which is frequently these days for obvious reasons.

To be fair to Newzbin, the raw and condensed search + the ability to save individual searches is still very powerful. And with it being free at the mo its still a good starting point when looking for something.

You do get password protected files from time to time but just read the comments (on NZBMatrix anyway) and people will quickly post if this is the case. Usually a non-password protected copy will be available soon enough...

Yeah to be sure, coz El_Muerko has evidently had some - just saying I've not had any and I've not even been trying to avoid them. Will keep an eye out on those comments though.

I can't remember the last time I had a password protected rar file, to be honest. But if I spot an upload has a bunch of comments, I'll read those first to make sure it's okay.

Out of interest, what players and codec's are people using to play .mkv's.

Ive been using MPC Home Cinema 64bit and CCCP for months. Is there anything better around?

Well that's a little premature seeing as it's still up.

But that's bleak. What happens when someone owes such an astronomical amount from a court case and they obviously have absolutely no way whatsoever of ever paying that? Just bankruptcy and a hideous black oily stinking smear of feculence across your credit rating until the Earth is scorched by the sun?

    No it's not.

    Newzbin - Usenet Search
    Newzbin Closed

Regrettably the Newzbin website has to close as a result of the legal action against us. More details here: http://deepsharer.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/newzbin-gossip/

Your ISP's proxy is probably behind the times.

So does anyone ever get any money? Or is it just set arbitrarily high just so long as the effect is they're put out of business?

I guess the aim is to put them out of business so they've achieved that, the money would be a drop in the ocean to these companies.
