    Su-perb!

I think I'd simultaneously love and loath being a trailer editor. Takes a lot of skill IMO, but think of how many movies you'd ruin for yourself!

Can't watch it here right now so I am not quite sure what the thread is about, but just going slightly OT (I hope) the most misleading trailer I ever saw was the one for Muriel's Wedding. It made the movie look like a generic and brash Hollywood comedy. I avoided it like the plague and didn't see it in the cinema.

Well, then it was on TV once and I watched it, and it turned out to be an absolutely charming, quiet and rather sad little movie that was as far from your typical Hollywood comedy as possible.

    Twats.

Wonderful - now if they really promoted a horror film as a feel-good chickflick...

    that was ace.

    i'd like to see:
You Got Mail trailed as a horror film, or maybe Schindler's List as some sort of Farrelly-brothers-style slapstick comedy?

Nope, it's great, you just don't get it. :)

If I didn't know better I would swear someone had reworked this trailer for Sophia Copolla's new film, but it's actually legit.

The link's dead; is there an alternative?

I saw The Shining for the first time the other day - THAT is a helluva film...

It's a shame the link isn't working anymore. It was a classic!

    Actually here it is.

    Thanks :)

Hah, they should make far more misleading trailers like that. Admittedly not many people would then see the film but at least they'd be in for a surprise..!

  • Deleted user 14 December 2005 11:14:16
Would be a hell of a shock seeing The Shining on the basis of that trailer :)

Hehe, the re-edited Shining trailer is excellent. Here's a bit more about it and some other edited trailers.

A post-production house organized a competition where assistant editors ‘re-cut’ trailers for famous movies to try and make them seem like different movies . . . . this is the one that won:

    http://www.tatteredcoat.com/archives/2005/09/28/the-shining-redux/

    Direct links to the trailers:
    The Shining
    Titanic
    West Side Story
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Actually, I dunno, that trailer was scarier than the real thing. Heart-warming tale of frustrated writer who wins the love of his foster son?
