I think I'd simultaneously love and loath being a trailer editor. Takes a lot of skill IMO, but think of how many movies you'd ruin for yourself!VR Guff: www.roadtovr.com (NEW site now live!)

Can't watch it here right now so I am not quite sure what the thread is about, but just going slightly OT (I hope) the most misleading trailer I ever saw was the one for Muriel's Wedding. It made the movie look like a generic and brash Hollywood comedy. I avoided it like the plague and didn't see it in the cinema.
Well, then it was on TV once and I watched it, and it turned out to be an absolutely charming, quiet and rather sad little movie that was as far from your typical Hollywood comedy as possible.

Aye, and thats one reason I didnt want to rent it when the woman was pleading to see it.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind gave the impression of being a lighthearted "Groundhog Day"-esque rom-com.

Glad I did becuase its one of the best films Ive seen in years. -

i'd like to see:
You Got Mail trailed as a horror film, or maybe Schindler's List as some sort of Farrelly-brothers-style slapstick comedy?

Nope, it's great, you just don't get it.
Existeinz gave the impression of being a sort of bio-organic action flick in the style of the matrix from its trailer. Turned out to be one of the worst, slowest films I've ever seen.

It's a shame the link isn't working anymore. It was a classic!
Actually here it is.

Hah, they should make far more misleading trailers like that. Admittedly not many people would then see the film but at least they'd be in for a surprise..!

Would be a hell of a shock seeing The Shining on the basis of that trailer

Registered 10 years agoHehe, the re-edited Shining trailer is excellent. Here's a bit more about it and some other edited trailers.
A post-production house organized a competition where assistant editors ‘re-cut’ trailers for famous movies to try and make them seem like different movies . . . . this is the one that won:

Actually, I dunno, that trailer was scarier than the real thing. Heart-warming tale of frustrated writer who wins the love of his foster son?
