I had to Google Shaun Williamson. Spat out my tea when I realised it was Barry from Eastenders. I've seen the whole of Extras multiple times and still didn't notice his real name.
He was great in Extras though. Bit of a running joke throughout the series, so not surprised to see him back.

The thing about the celebs in Extras that I didn't like was that it sounded too much like they were reading a Gervais script, (I know that they are but...) including gervaisism(Or brentisms :)) and it takes me out of the scene and the feeling that they're playing themselves.

Hosting the Golden Globes for a third time. Guess I'll be watching them again.

Anyway, most of the people in the 2011 audience seemed to be good sports. It's like one of the comedy roasts they do for celebrities sometimes. I don't think this will affect his Hollywood career either way.
I guess you didn't really pay attention. Stony faces all round and more or less silence throughout. By the time he did his final monologue the audience were getting up and walking out while he was still talking.
If they were so offended, then why did they invite him back a second time? Surely they knew what they were getting!

And the entire audience was walking out? Just a few? I didn't notice that, but maybe it's as you say and I lack the capacity to focus upon a 4-minute youtube clip.
Heh, I just saw this again. Does him being invited back for a third time change your views on this?

At the least, if anyone had been seriously offended, they weren't important enough to influence the decision to invite him back.

His mel Gibson joke at his first globes was one of the funniest and ballsiest gags ever , but he's still a grade A cunt

One of the best things I've seen in my internet life is Robert De Niro Cracking up at Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes.

    Brilliant.

He presented the globes again last night, a pretty tame affair.

As much as it pains me to say, I think Ricky is a spent force.

I thought that was pretty funny. Need to have a look to find a compilation of the evening.

    You dare to strike Scurrcules!?

Fairly tame intro but still worth a few giggles - I don't like his standup, his recent tour wasn't all that.

Still he'll keep popping up, Americans seem to like his 'aww bless him he's cute' style.

Yeah it's funny, but any comedian could have delivered/wrote those jokes....Just very predictable and boring, although the Jodie foster bit was funny :)

Science was a bit rubbish aye.

Stephen Merchant's Hello Ladies was excellent though.

    Speak the truth hussy!

Ricky's joke about God being too busy giving AIDS to kids in Africa was the standout joke on Science. I nearly wet myself.

I was sat next to a 60+ yr old pair of ladies when watching Science, not sure how much they got out of it or why on earth they thought it was a good idea to go in the first place.

I'm told by friends that Maerchant's stand up is good fun.

Yeah, I thought the opening was a bit subdued, given all the hype. The Guardian write-up nails it by pointing out that most of what he did was talk about 'controversy' rather than create any.

Exactly this. Also an incredible amount of self delusion if he thinks it all boils down to just that.

Anyone see him on Letterman recently? they were talking about life's too short and david asked him if it was a big hit in England, Ricky said yeah and then looked all sheepish.

I think its very right to be honest. Everyone become so cynical its get depressing. Sure life to short was a bit meh (Except for the genius sofa sucide talk). But he gets so much flak now. Not just him, every popular entertaintment now goes through this cycle being new and cool, and then hated by everyone because his made it. Later this year people will be hating on this months coolest thing.

Its fair to criticise, and life too short and science need criticising, but to attack him behind words on the internet is plain petty. The whole fanboy culture gets on my tits. Really does. Lambasting something because its cool, or you don't get it or appeals to you is sad. I think twilight gets this way too much.

Like for example, Lana del rey asn't realised an album yet, she getting shit left right and centre for appearing on Saturday night live. She gets shit because under Lizzy grant she didn't make it, so her original hardcore fans have started hate blogs.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST HUMANITY WHAT THE FUDGE IS WRONG WITH YOU. have you not got anything better to do then become invovled in other peoples life and put everything down. While i'm at it, like on Facebook with the stupid bloody note pictures and status. I'm just big boned not fat, i can't help it if i'm fat. Yes you can. Get of your bloody arse and do something instead of chomping on galaxy bar 76 and willowing in self pity because you're waiting for some body to go.. its ok. don't worry i like you. AGGH.

    I hate people.

/frustration out for morning. should be ok for rest of the day.

I've turned off all the avatars and crap, so don't expect me to be impressed by yours.

I know who one of them is. :|

As for Gervais, I have no problem with one-trick ponies as long as they don't think they are better than Champion the Wonder Horse and Mr Ed combined.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
