One of the articles I read said that DeNiro was a total embarassment in that ceremony, off his head on booze, and got pissed off at the suggestion that Little Fockers isn't top-tier filmmaking.

extract from his lifetime achievement acceptance speech:

"Thank you for this extraordinary honour. I was very, very moved when you made the announcement two months ago, well before you had a chance to review Little Fockers. I saw those. It's OK, we all have our jobs to do..."

I don't think he's particularly good at stand-up, but he does have guts, I suppose.

I think his older stand-up was funny but science, his latest one I didn't find all that great. It seems like he's just trying to be controversial now and I don't know why but when he saw fatter he just had that cheekiness about him that made it easier for him to get away with it.

Anyway, most of the people in the 2011 audience seemed to be good sports. It's like one of the comedy roasts they do for celebrities sometimes. I don't think this will affect his Hollywood career either way.

I guess you didn't really pay attention. Stony faces all round and more or less silence throughout. By the time he did his final monologue the audience were getting up and walking out while he was still talking.

Are you sure? Most people were laughing. And audiences are always bored shitless by the end of these awards ceremonies anyway.

He needs to tell you himself, like most jokes it will lose whatever humour it has in explaining. Check back later?

The Downey Jr bit confused me most. He makes a snippy comment about the event being mean spirited as if he's offended by the mean presenter, then proceeds to make jokes about himself which are almost the same as the ones he's offended by.

You see, I wonder if in fact Downey Jr was actually pissed off and was really just playing along - he may have sounded snippy but that's kind of his general delivery anyway, isn't it?

But he knows how to capitalise I and adds an appostrophe into he's. Not to mention he can put a full stop at the end of a sentence.

So he's automatically more deserving of respect than you.

Not surprised really, he owns the rights to The Office all over the world, he gets back ends from the US version which is now at what? Season 8? I read that the actors in that now would never have to work again based on what they earned from the deals they got for such a long commitment so I can only guess at what the guy who owns the rights will take.

Not to mention: stand-up tours and associated DVD sales, books, several TV shows and their DVD's, appearances etc...

Good on him, he worked for it, I couldn't have taken the 20 years of rejection he went through before The Office.

Cemetary Junction took me by suprise a bit, I didn't realise it was based around the place in Reading. I used to live around there at one point.

I think his new show is more "Curb your Enthusiasm with a dwarf" than Extras.

    Sounds good.

Extras was indeed awesome, but it looks as if they're stretching the whole 'including cool celebrities that can take the piss out of themselves' thing now. It's just Gervais showing off now with how many celeb mates he has.

Will still watch happily this though, as Gervais and particularly Merchant are great.

I don't think it's that. It's more that they need the big Hollywood names to be successful in America. Gervais is a big name there now, but still not big enough to get massive audiences if it were just a British dwarf starring.

Looks very like Extra's going by the celebs that are going to be in it.

    Johnny Depp
    Sting
    Liam Neeson
    Helena Bonham Carter
    Steve Carell
    Cat Deeley
    Sophie Ellis-Bextor
    Les Dennis
    Keith Chegwin
    Shaun Williamson

Still I will give it a try. Anyone know when it actually starts?

I'm sure Shaun Williamson will be delighted to be included in the same list of Celebrities as Johnny Depp and Liam Neeson!

I had to Google Shaun Williamson. Spat out my tea when I realised it was Barry from Eastenders. I've seen the whole of Extras multiple times and still didn't notice his real name.
