I currently use a wireless mouse which is fine for general web browsing, etc but there is a slight lag that would be bad in games. If I'm going to get a new mouse for games I may aswell make it a good one. Does anyone know if this is a good one and if that is a good price? If not which mouse do you recommend for gaming, preferably a laser mouse. My favourite type of game is RTS and RPG if that makes any difference.

    Thanks in advance

Use your wireless ... shoudl be fine for RPG and RTS games.
I even use mine for FPS games, where it might make sense to get a mouse with a tail.

Buy a new game with the cash you save.
    ;-)

Are those logitech ones better than the one I linked too? The price is about the same although the stated resolution on the logitecj 510 is lower.

The Razor mice have a "hardcore gamer" image but are, imo, pretty uncomfortable, and they make a bit of a cheap impression, though I've heard they are better now in that respect.

Anyway, I can guarantee you you won't regret it if you buy a Logitech MX 510. Best mouse I've ever used.

    Why the O_O?

I think that price sounds pretty normal for an Mx 510.

The MX510 costs but since I've been gaming with one I've not had any "mouse wrist", it's nice and comfy to use and it's fab.

Obviously only right handers need apply but if you're left handed you're obviously in league with the Devil... ;-)

    edit: clarification.

Seriously though .. why wouldn't you be able to play an RTS or RPG with a regular wireless mouse.

If you play a twitch shooter FPS game, a bit of mouse lag might cramp your game and get you killed. But to click units or buttons in an RTS /RPG a tad of unnoticable mouse lag won't make a diff, right?

I don't like the MX510, but then I don't like mice that "mold" to your hand so...

/is probably in league with the Devil anyway.

I am going to initially try my wireless but although RTS and RPG are my favourites I may still occasionally play other types. So although I wont be getting one for a while I may aswell find out the best one to get since the topic is already started.

Tthe girl-friend had a wireless MS mouse, but it drove me mad. I hated using that mouse for games. The lag is minimal, but it is definitely noticeable when you're used to a cable mouse.

Bought her an MX 510 just last week. ;)

With your choice of control methods I'd say the "probably" is a definite!

edit: one sentence and I still stuff it up.

I am not using the mouse in a way that my palm would touch the shape anyway.

Do we have small hands, Lutz? ;)

The main reason I'm willing to pay a bit extra is because the last mouse I bought before my wireless one was a microsoft optical and I was very disappointed with it. My main problem with it was that sometimes it seemed to scroll on its own, my dad also has one and it does the same.

If you like the shape of the MX510, then get the mx518 instead. It has a higher 1600 DPI so you can be more precise in sniping.

The Razer Viper is obsolete - if you want a Razor, or are left handed, get the Diamondback instead - it was the first mouse on the market with 1600 DPI, but the same sensor is now in the mx518. (Play have it for 35)

For the doubters, the difference between 800 and 1600 dpi IS noticable, I'm currently playing BF2 with and MX510 because I'm too lazy to get my diamondback out, and I do miss the accuracy. But it is something you'd have to try to understand, and if you don't try it you won't know what you are missing.

brokenkey's post has finally pushed me into getting and upgrade to the 518, my nephew has one and playing about with that I like the dynamic res change option too.

Watch out I'll be much more accurately shooting on BF2 as soon as it turns up.

I've ordered one from Aria, including P&P it's 41, so only get one if you play a lot of games.

Heh... my problem is my hands are rather broad in relation to their length, so molded mice feel to small width ways for me. :)

I've only just ordered a upgrade for my PC that will allow it to play games so I'm still unsure exactly how much I'll be playing, although I'll probably pick up the 518 or something similar eventually. I'll just wait until theres a games droubt and some spare money is burning a hole in my pocket. Thanks for all the advice,

Bah, had I known about the MX 518 a week ago, I would have given my MX 510 to the girl-friend and bought me one of those (instead of buying her a MX 510).

    Life's not fair.

Thats a pretty good site. They also have the razor diamondback for a similar price, is the 518 better than that one too?

They are identical technology wise, but the buttons on the MX518 are more sensibly placed if you are right handed.

But the diamondback plazma looks cool - it uses an infra red lazer so you can't see anything when you look at the bottom of it, allowig them to stuff a blue LED in there to make it look cool. If you go to LAN parties, the diamondback will get you more "oohs" than an MX.

Best I've seen for us devil worshipping lefties is the Logitech MX310. 800dpi, 6 buttons (although one is only for use in windows, cant seem to map it in BF2).

800dpi is obsolete. Have a look at the razor i linked to earlier.
