Anyway, sauerkraut can be bloody excellent and of course it's not just a German thing is it? The Americans and Canadians eat loads of the stuff. And, cough, even the French. ;p

Well, when i come to write my autobiography and get to the chapter "Nations of the world who's citizens are clearly just as bloody mad as the Germans when it comes to chucking pickled cabbage down their necks" i'll know who to add.

Sauerkraut. No bloody wonder they're sour.

Parisians are assholes to everyone, though :-)

Much the same as the rest of the UK feels about London to be honest! It was recently voted the most unfriendly city in the country.

If you're a vinegar fan there's no finer dish then sauerkraut. Mmmm.

I dunno, I prefer the pickled papaya & carrot salads you get in vietnamese/thai restaurants :)

I actually felt quite sorry for Paris. They've bid three times, have already built a lot of the venues, and it is a truly fantastic, impressive city. Yeah, the people can be a bit rude, but that's modern urban living for you - New Yorkers, Londoners, Parisians... spot the pattern. Time is money etc.

It seemed to me that we sort of blagged it at the last minute with a very slick presentation based around "inspiring the next generation wiv da sport" or some such bollocks - as if we weren't busy selling off school playing fields and our kids weren't obese crisp-guzzling couch-ridden tv addicts - and lots of shiny CGI sports facilities magically sweeping across East London, a message from the Queen, Mandela (how did we get him on board?), Blair and of course the cheeky charm of Becks wittering on about his roots in the 'manor'. It was a full on shmooze assault and it worked. Style over substance. All very NuLab really.

Top moment yesterday was from David Beckham as he fondly remembered seeing Lord Coe run bare foot in the Olympics whilst the crowd tried not to shout

"That was Zola Budd, you cock!"

I heard a rumour that we got Mandela on board (& the african nations) by promising to support the african bid for the footy world cup. Complete gossip-mongering of course, but - hey! - that's fun too.

I bet Blair's campaigning for increasing aid to Africa didn't hurt either.

I'd give it about 6 years.

Could the France haters give it a rest? How would you feel if everyone around the world abusive remarks about the English just because of Blair?

Oh, that's right, they do. :p

None of the French people I know (and I know a lot of them) abuse the English. Most of them really like the English. French people nowadays don't slag off British food either, even when it sometimes deserves it. I just think the English should get over their complex about the French, it makes them look a bit sad.

Chirac's off-record comments were a fucking disgrace, he's a complete tool but seeing as 95% of Frenchman would probably agree with that, maybe you lot don't agree? ;p

Wish I was a homeowner in London. Wouldnt catch me whining at all. In fact, I'd be looking at what mansions I could buy outside of London once I'd sold my pad.

Living in Essex I'm well chuffed, will get most of the benefits with very little of the distruption :)

So anyone know where the footballs going to be hosted?
