My sub is up on PC Gamer and as Iíve realised I play more console games than PC games these days Iíve decided to switch to something more console focused. Which I guess means either Edge or Games TM. I used to like Edge a lot but someone said they had a complete change of editorial staff a while back. So would anyone recommend one over the other?

Why not spend the money on more games and read everything online?

I'd take Edge every time. Better standard of writing. Games TM just seems unedited - just print the first things they tap out. Retro games section is just 'ooh look! an old Ocean advert! Remember this? Remember that?' - all about as insightful as Kate Thornton / Bob Mills / Stuart Maconie on "I Remember When Channel 4 Had Original Ideas".

PC Gamer - got my first issue in ages a couple of weeks ago. It hasn't got any better than i remember. Very poor, i thought. Edge is now the only mag i even consider buying.

I prefer gamesTM, mostly because it's a slightly more relaxed tone than Edge and doesn't take gaming quite so seriously. Edge always sound to me like it's a bit of a chore to have to play games.

That's a hefty sum you're probably paying then?

Too bad overseas subscriptions are too overpriced to even consider them...

What's pc zone like these days? Gave up when i got fed up when it became increasingly devoted to Chris Anderson's EVerquest exploits and review scores based on the weight of the bag of money included with the review copy. They tried to maintain a 'harsh but fair' veneer by slagging of games they'd rated highyl a couple of months after all the sales were safely in the bag.

I read both. Edge gives a calm, hype-free verdict on all the latest games, and is the only games magazine that looks like it takes games seriously.

However, sometimes you want something a bit more relaxed, and like Blerk said, that's where GamesTM comes in. The retro section in particular is great, and for many it's the main reason for buying the magazine.

Between Edge and EG I'm sorted. I often read other site reviews too, just to build a bigger picture.

GamesTM and Edge compliment one another. Edge is the harsh old cynical gamer who remembers the good old days when games had originality and love nothing more than striking down a 'show off upstart' with a low score. but since the editorial staff change the quality has dropped, some reviews are suspect but it's still worth picking up.

GamesTM is a bit more optimistic, very much written by people who love gaming and talk about games even when they are not working (which they do over at the NTSC-UK forums). but of course, the trade off is the quality of writing is down a little and of course, the porn chat-line adverts (which even the staff moan about).

If i had to get one, i'd get GamesTM.

I've got Games Tm, issue 2 -> current and Edge 101 -> current (including all 10 different covers of the 10th anniversary edition, still sealed).

I don't want them any more, can't be bothered to ebay 'em and I need the room more than I need any money I'd get for them.

    Anybody want them?

Edit - Postage would obviously be a tad excessive, so for picking uppage, I'm in Enfield, North London.

Might be able to work something out?

    Games TM.

To be fair to them, their tone has been consistent since launch a few years ago, whereas Edge doesn't know what it wants to be anymore.

Their recent magazine restyling was a step in the right direction to being a bit less 'high-brow', so at least Edge realise they're out of touch.

Having said that, the restyle is a complete fucking eye-sore, so...

    Games TM.

I read Edge - but them I'm shallow and just base all my purchases on looks - and Edge really is beautifully put together.

I've got quite a few issues missing from both Edge and GamesTM (I'm not sure exactly which ones), so that would be very useful, thanks. I don't live too far away, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Works out to be about £11 a month i think, not too bad considering i've read them cover-to-cover by the end of the week, twice.
I read them bit by bit when i'm sat out the kitchen with a cuppa.

Thanks for all that. I'll probably go for Games TM mainly 'cos it £15 cheeper for a 12 month sub. Yeah I know crap way of making a decision but there you go!

I would go for Edge every time over Games TM. I don't like Games TM style of writing all that much and for some reason the way they have their reviews split into bullet points annoys the HELL out of me...

With all that money you'd fork out on Magazines, I'd just print off every page of Eurogamer every day.

Read that on the toilet, you can even use the paper!

If you printed it off in black and white, you could then colour it in. See the games your way.

There's no end to the shapes you can make out of sheets of paper, Origami would be a natural progression.

You wouldn't have to carry the whole bulk of the entire magazine around with you, you could just take the review page, or preview page with you.

Print out the forums, and you've got somehting that no magazine can offer you! You can spend all day planning your response!

Instead of writing an inflamatory comment under a review, you have something even more satisfying at hand ;)

If only that were still true. The writing hasn't been as badly affected by the staff walkout and redesign as I'd feared, but these days Edge is not nearly as well put together as it used to be.

Personally I'd drop subscribing for a few months and buy individual copies of both for a while. Personally I get Games TM every month and Edge some months, if it looks like it's got a good article in it (I gave up reading Edge reviews months back, and these days only flick through the Games TM reviews even). I'm thinking of cutting down on Games TM, except I've got every issue since issue 2 and I don't want to leave a hole in my collection.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Trying to look at subscribing to Edge/GamesTM on the internet(prices/availability).

Edge's subscribe link times out, and gamesTM gives a server error.

    Very professional :)

Only copy of Edge I ever bought was the one with the review for x-com apocalypse.
Favourite mag was mean machines sega megadrive, also liked a particular mag, Play? or something back in ps1 days.

Judging by EDGE's current performance (i.e. sloping through my letterbox a good 4-5 days after it's appeared in the shops the last few months), you'd also get it earlier, too!
