    Hi guys,

Did anyone watch this last night? It was on SS1 at 1am.

Its basically an old organisation called ECW that has no holds barred, no DQ's, just loads of tables (properly done, not like you see in WWE), high risk manoeveres and blood (last fight was a bit gruesome!). It went out of business some time ago (sadly) and Rob Van Dam (who is in WWE now) suggested to Vince McMahon they do a one night only ECW reunion. He was into it, and so last nights event was born!

    And it was absolutely brilliant!

Defintely the best wrestling event Ive ever watched. In fact, its the first time Ive watched every bit of a program that late until 4am without falling asleep!

Forget your WWE storylines, this was just ace - no namby pamby bullshit! There is no way you can choreograph some of the moves those guys were doing.

If your interested its on again at 9pm tonight.

Believe me, its NOTHING like the WWE - you wont be disappointed if you watch it!

Dudleys were great. Couldnt believe the amount of blood!!!

Mike Awesome at the end was insane!!

I hope this means theyll do more of these events. They are just so much better than the WWE stuff.

EDIT: @ deathgibbon - Yeah I know - god I feel stupid posting stuff about wrestling when Im 28 yo :-) but it was really good!

    Unbelievable amounts.

Check out Tommy Dreamer at the end (post having his head cheese grated).

Check out here for a torrent of it :)

*Crys like a little sissy girl*

I loved the bit with the cheese grater. I thought 'It's gonna be typical wwe. It won't do anything.' Ketchup! Lots of it! Like the little barbed wire "thingy" too (Don't want to spoil it)

Allthough what the dudleys did at the end with the table topped it for me. Bring back ECW!

I wanted to watch it but I wasn't around. Still, I'll probably buy the DVD when it comes out.

I have this sitting on the parents sky+ box

I reckon Vinny Mac is using this to gauge how well a new tv broacast of ECW would do

Had a few friends over last night to watch this, and I agree it was very entertaining viewing. The highlight, for me, was Rob Van Dam's 'shoot' speech on the WWE. ECW and everything else. Very raw and very true.

Couldn't agree more, this was the best PPV I've seen for about 4 years. Sad not to see Tazz used more & no Raven (though probably to do with his TNA contract) but it was gruesome, so much blood.

I thought the RVD & Paul Heyman shoot speeches were great, so entertaining, and all the WWE wrestlers could do was stand atmake gestures as they didn't have mikes, awesome! (pun intended)

Good point. Apparently the American TV companies aren't bending over backwards to sign up the Smackdown contract when it comes out & if you believe all the internet hype/rumour, then the Velocity show is set to be canned as it's not pulling in audiences. Sure an ECW TV show would have to be on late & not in the (I assume) early-mid evening slots that Velocity occupies, but I can see it getting a good audience, be interesting to see the buy-rates for last nights PPV against the buy-rates that the standard WWE PPV's pull in.

I must admit, I didn't realise how many WWE wrestlers used to be in ECW until last night as I'd never had the opportunity to see it before & amazing how many were so much better in that type of match.

As velocity is essentially a couple of bonus matches for the live smackdown audience that are taped and mixed in with clips of raw + SD, then frankly, its been a long time coming.

As for smackdown, the thing that confuses me is that its supposed to be more family friendly then raw (especially given some of the storylines that raw used in the late 90s), yet some of the angles are on par with some of raws more adult content (if not beyond). I expect Vince will line up someone else to take up SD, in much the same way Raw moved to spike tv. Heck, it wouldnt surprise me if Vince one day set up a sports channel himself. After all, the WWE is a brand of "Titan Sports".

Another good point Sephy, there's already a wrestling channel available on Sky (427) which shows TNA matches, as well as other promo's, I wouldnh't be suprised if Vince ran one, although it would probably be PPV & apart from last nights PPV, I've not seen one that's been worth paying for for quite a few months recently.

I must admit, some of the more recent segments on Smackdown have been more adult than usual. I really haven't enjoyed the Angle angle (again, pun intended). It doesn't suit him & it's a waste of his talent as either a cry-baby heel or a passionate face.

I like that they have moved Cena over to Raw where he might be allowed to be a bit more risque again (I think we've seen him turning more like this on last weeks RAW).

Don't understand why last nights ECW crowd were so anti-Cena (chants of "F*ck you Cena could be heard), did he used to be on ECW? That's the only thing I can think of, is that he used to be on it but didn't show last night (though I don't think WWE would be happy letting their champion go on a "rival's" PPV).

/has no doubt been labelled a geek for the rest of his Eurogamer days! ;o)

There is a WWE "on demand" service in the US already (i belive it may be online too), but to my knowledge there is not a subscription or free channel. So it would be easy for vince to move in that area, or broadcast a mainstream show for free on that channel (can still get ads if need be)

As for Cena, I thought it was a possibility, but never expected him to move so quickly. I do think it was a good idea though as he would quickly get stale hanging around that dumb JBL gimmick (bring back proper Bradshaw ffs). Cena is easily one of the biggest gimmicks at the moment, so there is a lot of possibilitys there. Batista and Trip wont be moving though so it could get crowded

My tip, Trips or Batista will get drafted to Smackdown (Trips is my pick) before the title match as the "contract" they signed is exempt from the draft. Then whoever gets drafted (i.e. Trips) will win the title & thus take it to Smackdown, which will mean both shows have a title again. Only way they can work out this "two titles on one show" problem that I can see.

Be a shame if that does happen though as it would be yet another obvious WWE storyline.

I really can't see Trip moving to SD. They teased it last time remember, and they moved him back before he had even appeared on SD (traded back for Booker + someone else iirc)

benoit back on smackdown was a good move though. he works well on either show, and I smell a new Eddie feud, which would go down well with me :)

Booker T + Dudley Boys + someone else IIRC

I think they'll do it this time, either tha or Batista & he'll retain the title thus taking it to Smackdown, feuding with JBL (oh great!!)

The "shut the fuck up" chant needs to be shouted by the smackdown fans at JBL. It's universal between brands!

Lita is an ex-ECW employee (as Miss Conginiality IIRC), I would like to hear the old "She's a crack whore" chants that she used to get again :-)

And in my opinion JBL is a lot more bearable now than when they started his current gimmick. He's become quite good on the mic I feel.

Now Chris Masters and Viscera... There's two people I wish they would get off my TV! Chris Masters especially... They fire Molly Holly, Matt Hardy, Gail Kim et al but yet HE has a job? It's a disgrace.

his mic work is good, but the scripts they give him are horrific (much like the rest of his gimmick)

the look on edge's face when heyman mentioned matt hardy was fan-fucking-tastic

I reall would love to know what Vince thinks about the whole thing. he is in the (un)enviable position of owning most of the trademarks, footage and such, yet has to contend with two very opposing styles. it's quite shocking really that he could let the boundries hit each other with such force and allow the brutal honest views of heyman and co.

Well if the PPV buy rates are anything to go by he may be allowing those brutal honest views more often.

    something i found
Paul Heyman's "shoot" on Edge was planned. Edge was told about it earlier in the day and was said to be completely fine with what Heyman was going to say about him.

On the other hand, Heyman's shoot on JBL was not planned and Vince was watching it on a monitor backstage. Vince was initially surprised about what Heyman said about HHH not working Tuesdays, but eventually laughed about it after a three/four second pause, saying, "I don't care, he put Triple H over."

Finally got to see the show (thank you P2P!) and I've got to say Mike Awesome vs Masato Tanaka was THE match of the night! Absolutely incredible.

I've read some stuff about the DVD they put out of the show. Because they've rushed it out (to help against piracy of the show) there's only one special feature - a commentary track by JBL, he apparently was miked up so you can hear all his comments through the show. Meh.

Also they've cut the Sandman's entrance down and over dubbed it with some other music track - didn't they want to pay the royalties to Metallica?

    I've finally seen smackdown

    /pats sky+

To be quite frank, it's not a storyline I would have foreseen. Especially as Smackdown is supposed to be the "inferior" show, Batista is AAA+ talent. granted, a lot of people have shown they can work both (Benoit, Angle, etc), but Batista seemed much more suited for Raw.
