Been doing that since yesterday - sharp drop, steady climb, then sharp drop again.

Doesn't that indicate that most people think it's overvalued though? If it starts to move down, people crowd in to get out because they think it might freefall. And once it gets cheaper, other people decide it might just be time to dip in. If people were really to think the real price is somewhere in between, a similar number of people should think it's cheap when it's low as to think it's overvalued when it's high, so the rate of climb should be about the same as the rate of drop.

TBH I think most of what we're seeing now is the same people who got in hoping to get rich quickly, now getting out because they're afraid to get poor just as quickly.

BTC got a lot of mainstream publicity when it hit 10K - but looks like people forgot to look at how the price has dipped before.

Fascinating to watch after seeing screengrabs from Reddit last night of people saying they've taken out loans of ~$10k at stupid APRs to buy Bitcoins.

I imagine Christmas will be less than jolly in quite a few homes this year...

1st rule of crypto: put in as much as you can't afford to lose.

Doesn't apply to crypto - if you're not all in (and that includes a QuickQuid/Sunny/Wonga loan) then GTFO!

Pretty annoyed, I tried to withdraw from bittrex when it was around 20k and they had issues with verififying my account that they only fixed today. Only a couple of hundred quids worth but they've basically halved in value while I waited for them to sort their shit out. I think I may leave it in there now and see if it comes back up - I only ever dabbled as an experiment anyway.

Bought a small amount of XRP myself yesterday to see how the various sites, wallets, etc. work. It's all fairly alien and I was triple reading everything as my lizard brain was fairly sure everything was out to scam me. Got some XRP in a wallet, now to not look at it for a while!

XRP was a good call. It won't go to a silly amount as it has a ridiculous amount of coins in circulation and they can pump more into it. Should go to $2 by the end of next year. Love how all the media scare mongers about a major crash and it bounces back less than 24hours later.

Ripple was $1.47 a few hours ago. This jump in cryptocurrency values is insane. Although, in theory, XRP can't get too high too quickly, as banks could be discouraged from using them.

Ok now predictions have gone to $5-10 xrp at the end of next year! It's going crazy. I should of got alot more, most of my funds are tied up in litecoin for which I'm confident will do well next year.

@figgis Agreed. Bitcoin has begun plummeting. Once it is on all the mainstream media shows for how much it has gone up, it's time to sell.

I was late buying my stash of Ripple; I got caught up with things and by the time I got around to buying some yesterday it had hit the 2 dollar mark up from around .80 the week before Christmas when I originally intended to buy but I believe it had fallen from a high of 2.80. Crazy!

Given the predictions for the year though, still think it will be worth it. In fact it's already increased in value 10% since I bought yesterday.

Looks like it's going to be going live on coinbase soon which is expected to double the price. A friend told me 8th January, though I can't find a source to confirm that, regardless it seems nailed on for January anyway.

Fuck sake, trying to get set up on GateHub to buy Ripple and it's taking an age to set up a transfer from an EU Bank account.

I don't hold any other crypto so a bit SOL until that's done.

Ripple doing nicely. Got it at 20cents just as Amex announced it was going to use it. But I don't see how they can if it keeps rising.

The other one to keep an eye on - also got in before it jumped - is Iota.

No. Just the +44 into the rest.

Bit I'm waiting for is the EU Bank gateway so I can make a SEPA payment to them direct.

Another stupid question from an absolute amateur - bear with me!

If I use shapeshift to exchange Ether to Ripple (using a ripple wallet address using Ripple Wallet Pro) will this automatically 'activate' the wallet if I'm exchanging Ether for roughly 100 XRP?

Also, bar the miner fee (0.5 XRP) will any other amount be deducted? Shapeshift mentions a minimum of 20XRP must be deposit for an unfunded wallet - is this simply a minimum requirement to 'activate' the wallet or will this amount be taken from the exchanged 100 XRP, leaving me with 80 XRP once the transaction is finished?

    Thanks!
