Couldn't see a thread for this so apologies if one does exist.
Anyway has anyone pre ordered this along with moi? Or am I just going to be a lonely chap in here?

My copy has shipped from simply so I should have it tomorrow. Quite looking forward to it. The original had its faults and had some horrible difficulty spikes late on, but, it also had some pretty scatty levels which were very atmospheric. It's the closest you get for a decent survival horror these days.

    Doesn't Resi 7 count?

Yes it does. Sorry I should of elaborated on that and I meant from a third person viewpoint like the resi's and silent hills of old.

I personally loved the first and think it's close to Resident Evil 4 in quality (minus the Laura last encounter, a few too many one hit kills and a couple of poor chapters in the middle). So atmospheric, brilliant designed levels / encounters and felt great to play.

@JiveHound Resident Evil 7 is awful. The worst game I've played this year.

Very little coverage for this on gaming sites or the forums considering it's out in two days. Was the first game that shite that no one cares about the sequel?

@grassyknoll Says you. Many say that Evil Within was awful.

Both have their plaudits and detractors so it's a reasonable comparison.

    @minky-kong

Probably. The original didn't get much attention either. The original definitely had a mixed response but I really enjoyed it.

    It was gash.

Horribly gloopy controls, shitarsed camera and a really shitty port on PC.

    @grassyknoll

What didn't you like about RE7? I thought it was a great return to form after the utter dogshit RE6.

@JiveHound I know The Evil Within isn't popular, but I thought the one it was designed was fantastic most of the time.

The sequel is getting some very mixed responses as well from early previews and so on. Doesn't sound like they have put in a great deal of effort to improve much on the original.

I still have 1 tucked away in the back log now Halloween is coming up I should really get around to playing. This looks very much improved you can see 1 was held back with the last gen.

@Addy_B I haven't played Resident Evil 5 or 6 (so can't compare) but RE7 for me was just not fun to play. I felt bored and don't think it's really a traditional game and is more of an experience.

RE7 is a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. Exactly what a modern RE game should be. Was brilliant from start to finish.

Have it pre ordered from game collection. Be nice if they despatched today and arrived tomorrow.

I loved the first game. It hqd some issues here and there but it didn't deter me.

The one thing I love about the first game is how when you aim your handgun, how zoomed in the camera is. Not first person view, just so zoomed in so you see the gun. It just had that Shinji Mikami feel, signature to it. Hope it's in the second game too.

I also liked how in the first game, it got to about mission 5-ish where we actually learn more about the story and what's going on. Up until that point, the whole game was a giant wth?

Is it? I thought the general consensus was that it's improved. Tbh I'll take more of the first game again anyway. If for whatever reason I don't like it, I'll drop it like a hot potato and move on.

It's all still beside the point I was making.

Resident evil 7 not scary though. The demo was as the bad guy turns up randomly at any moment so you're constantly on edge turning those corners. In the main game, he turns up, you've got guns, you start to notice a pattern.

Good game, but not on resident evil 2 and 3 levels of magnificiqué.

@JiveHound Yes, I'm aware how one interprets art is totally subjective. I still believe it's more of an experience than a game and didn't like it.

I miss silent hill the 2nd was brilliant from start to finish. RE 2 a close 2nd for me I'm looking forward to seeing where they take this already bizarre story in EW 2.

Picked the first one up in the summer sale and really enjoyed it.

It felt really old school in that it was a solid 15-20 hour game with no tacked on multiplayer, no harassment to sign into some bullshit third party account and it didnt cut out content to sell back to you.

It's getting to a point where by the omission of bullshit is a plus point you could put on the box!

You nearly did, or did? I can't work that sentence out? :)

Anyway, I guess each to their own.

For what it's worth, I really liked the first Evil Within, but the clunkiness did my head in. I'm now going through it with invincibility on - still shooting etc, and I'm liking the ride better.

I never did try it, even when it was like 7 quid on the dashboard. I always found a reason not to do it even though I loved Resi 4.

I kind of like the old school clunkiness to it. It had some genuinely unsettling levels for me. The boxhead chase around was pant wetting for me lol. Tense as hell. My only gripes were some ridiculous spikes very late on.

Wife is out tomorrow so once kids are in bed it's lights out, headphones on and game on!

@quadfather I was going to buy PSVR especially for Resident Evil 7 back in January. Thankfully didn't!
