Looking for some advice please. Unfortunately my GTX 780 3GB has died and I need to buy a replacement. I have up to (but preferably less than) 300ish to spend.

I mainly play Assetto Corsa and monitor is 1080p although mostly game via TV. 780 was fine running AC at 2x dynamic sampling or whatever it is called. VR does interest me but depends on cost of card to support it.

Any thoughts on what I should buy and/or decent deals that are about appreciated?

@scoobysi A 1060 will see you right within your budget. The 3GB will give you change left over, but the6GB will be more future proof.

I'd say go for a 4GB card minimum, didnt like the 3gb 1060.

RX 480/580 8GB might be a good buy. Crap time to buy a GPU though because bitcoin miners are snapping them all up.

Ethereum miners, not bitcoin, but the point is valid.

    Cheers, I'd noticed 3 & 6 didn't realise there was a 4.

Cheers but I think a 6 might be a bit outside my budget.

Hmmm I notice there are 3GB more expensive than 6, are there sub-types of cards or features I should look out for?

As much as its tempting to go for the cheaper option in this case its probably not a good idea. 3GB was questionably low 2 years ago, you'd already have to me making compromises on settings even at 1080p. Also the memory isn't the only difference, the 3GB 1060 is actually slower than the 6GB one.

Edit: That said if you absolutely cant afford better than the 3GB it will still play anything you want it to with some Vram intensive settings turned down. At least for now.

@Spectral I agree I probably need to get the best I can afford it's just being forced into it is a pain at the moment.

Difficult to tell what is a good price as a lot of 3rd party sellers on Amazon.

This would be my recommendation for the 6GB card.

This would be a servicable 3GB.

This is the one I currently have: it's the 1060 6GB AMP Edition. I bought it in January 2017, but ended up treating myself to a 1080 TI over the summer.

Which I'm guessing is still not worth getting into just using my single GPU when I'm not gaming

Get a Zotac with a 5 year warranty. My 760 died recently, got given a 960 as a replacement.

@scoobysi Zotac 1070 just popped up on hotukdeals for 329. That makes the 1060 at 300 look very expensive.

I picked up my 1060 for a bit more than 200 and recently changed it for a new sealed 1080 I found on eBay for 350. Admittedly, I bought in euros.

My feeling about the 1060, 1070 & 1080 cards is that there isn't a huge difference between the custom cards that justifies a large price difference. When I bought the 1060 I actually wanted to get the cheap EVGA single fan version that reviewed really well for noise and temperature but which wasn't available at the time.

As mentioned the custom cooler cards are much the same really performance wise. The only thing to keep in mind if you care and especially if you have a windowed case is pick one that matches the rest of your components visually.

Personally I dont like windowed cases so I have one of those bright red and black MSI cards(1070 but the cooler is the same) which has been great for the year or so I've had it so far.

In the U.K. The electricity costs make it pretty marginal. I mined for a few months earlier in the year and did ok but would have been better just buying ETH instead of GPUs

What about a 1080ti? Am I losing money by not jumping on this train?
