Me too. Gonna try on Xbox first, but I'm also going to download the PC demo later.

Apex just didn't run very well for me, possibly because I was running it off a mechanical drive. There was just a lot of stuttering, no matter the graphical settings. Let's see if this one is better.

Downloading now. Wonder how my RX 480 will handle it. The internet tells me the 480 has 5.8 Gigawatts of powah, not too far behind the WORLDS MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE.

I like the graphics, somehow they seem to have managed to fix the terrible AA from 6, and made the game look a lot smoother as a result.

The Porsche from the first race can't turn at all though :/

Performs well enough, I get the impression my 480 isn't really stretching its legs at 1440p because 4K seems doable with a few tweaks. The demo itself is quick and to the point, no obnoxious narration or too much hand-holding.

My 480 runs very well on 1080p and high settings. Definitely a lot smoother than Apex. Looks better than the Xbox version of course, but to be fair, the console also looks very good indeed, especially considering the power gap.

There is just something strange about the overall picture. I think the cars look kinda... fake. I'm not sure. Maybe it's the lighting.

Not sure I like how the Porsche handles, its like rocket powered shopping trolley. Also the sound of the truck cab engine sounds it would get on my nerves after a long while but the other car was just right. Looked really nice for plain old xbox one

The more I read about the game here the more I'm leaning towards the somewhat flawed Project Cars 2. Hmmmmmmm

I've done everything twice so far using my G920 wheel, with all assists off (did one playthrough with normal steering, and one with simulation). For reference I loved Forza 6 until I got a wheel, then I found Project Cars' sensation of grip and driving far more realistic/satisfying.

So far in Forza 7 the wheel implementation is a big step on from Forza 6, so far as I can tell. Much weightier but still not a huge sensation of grip or side-to-side weight transfer like you get in Project Cars. Also in the GT2RS with Normal steering you get a weird pumping force-feedback feeling when you lose traction. With simulation steering it goes away.

Simulation steering finally seems sort of playable – it's very easy still to lose the 911's back end under braking, and it feels like there are corners you'd be able to take at 70mph where you just get the classic Forza zero grip thing. But you can catch slides a little more easily one-handing the wheel and balancing the throttle. The thing Project Cars does really well is give you that grippy feeling you get with proper tyres in real life, where you can lean on them in fast corners with confidence. Forza 7 is generally better than 6 was in terms of that, but still some way off PC… you still have to take a bit of a guess how hard you can push.

Other cool things… it's very pretty, especially the last lap of the Nurburgring as the storm clears. Truck racing is cool, nice to have Mugello back but will be nicer to drive it in something that doesn't need an altimeter. Dubai is long and cool, but not that interesting. Couldn't tell much difference in grip between the sand-covered bits and the rest, despite having the 'grip assist' off, and the grip levels on the Nurburgring as the track went from dry to wet didn't seem to change hugely (although in the wet you'd spin as soon as you put a wheel on the grass).

So far it's another iterative step on. Which is a good thing!

(first post, woo! Oh. Second. Don't remember that… *goes back to lurking*)

    @Timmywimmywoo

Interesting write up thanks. Do you have any experience with Assetto Corsa, and if so how would you rate F7 and Project Cars against that?

Using the T300 myself so would prefer handling over fancy looks to be honest, especially since I probably have to tune down the graphical settings a bit to achieve 60 frames.

Tried it briefly, vibration does not work with the official Xbox One pad on the PC. Second time this happens, second time that it happens in a Microsoft game.

Not had time to try it with the wheel yet.

@SYS64738 I don't – I've come close to buying AC but never got around to it, despite all the Italian devs in my office telling me it's the best thing since Mum's lasagne… on Windows, at least.

I've just watched Digital Foundry's comparison of PC2 on all the consoles and it doesn't look like the Xbox version is very well optimised – but as long as it's the same or better than PC1 I'm sure I'll still have fun with it. Annoyingly, all my mates will only buy Forza…

@Timmywimmywoo if you have a wheel you MUST get Assetto. I played it with a pad (on PC here btw) until recently and my word the wheel transformed the game. Even just hot lapping with one car/track combo is incredibly satisfying, with that one more lap feel to it.

Looking nice in ultrawide when the game is actually running, menu's cutting back to 16:9 a little annoying but got it running at 60 no problem.

I do like the dynamic stuff in settings, as long as they dont fuck with my textures, msaa or frame rate I'm happy to leave most the rest of them.

Playing this on OG Xbox one and jesus does it look pretty. Loved 4, hated 5, liked 6, so far from just the demo I'm already convinced it, seems less sterile for one.

I agree with that. Like the new hud, and the motion effects. Didn't like the Porsche. Wasn't expecting the lightning at Nurburg, and actually paused thinking something had broken before remembering about the dynamic weather.

Seems a lot more involved than 6.

    Trucks seem fun!

It's so damn twitchy! Reminds me of every TVR ever in that respect. Quick though.

Interested to hear more people's views on the wheel implementation as well. I'm on a TMX on Xbox which I only got recently - when I tried to dip back into Forza 6 after playing lots of F1 2017 and trying some PCars 1 it felt horrible, could barely keep any of the cars on the track.

    From the front page article:

Forza Motorsport 7 launches on 3rd October for Xbox One and Pc, though folks who buy the Ultimate Edition will unlock it a few days early on 29th September.
I know it's a minor thing, but stuff like this really puts me off the game just out of principle.

Why? I think it;s a decent incentive for those wanting the best versions.

It's such a stupid waste of money for those who do it, imo. It's not a perk, and it's scummy by MS.

Is it not just an additional benefit for those who fork out the cash? I don't really see the big deal.

There's other stuff you get, ofc, but the 4 day's access shouldn't be included in the valuation imo. It's meaningless, really.

That said if Halo 6 does it oh dear

And if anyone is actually suckered in to spending a ton extra for a few days headstart, they deserve all the fleecing they get.

If it’s meaningless then there’s no point even worrying about it.

Let’s be honest here though, if you buy the peasant version for a mere 70 eur, you’re getting the game *later*. Subtle thing, but I find it annoying as well.

Exactly. I'm well past my old ways of having zero patience for waiting for games, but making people (who already pay a pretty hefty price to begin with) wait artificially for the release of a digital product is pretty cheeky.

If you look at FH3's ultimate edition, many people were conned by assuming you're being treated as VIP while not all the DLC was included in that version either. It's just cheap money grabbing tactics.
