No news on Switch VC as of yet, but it'll happen eventually.

That is a seriously stellar line-up of games - and with that form factor, more than easily worth the 80 I'd say. This is going to sell like crazy.

It's funny that despite this having some of the legitimately best games ever made you think it's tat.
He's not wrong. You don't need to get this to play those games. Chances of you having another machine that you can legitimately buy them for, and play then in a more convenient way are high. Even if you don't it's probably cheaper to just get a secondhand Wii or something.

Anyone who gets this is getting it for the thing itself, not the games. Which is totally fair enough and I can see the appeal, but it's fairly likely to end up being something that is indeed 'another piece of tat around the house'.

Yep. Not to mention, if the NES Mini is anything to go by, this will fast become a rare collector's item that may be worth hundreds in the future.

In my extremely limited experience of emulations or virtual store versions there always seems to be a problem or fix required. Some sort of faff.

Now I can have all those games permanently in 100% working order with the original pads instantly on the TV. Its small enough to lug around to a mates to relive some 90's rivalries.

If you had asked me for a SNES dream list it covers 90%. I'm genuinely surprised by the titles.

The Game store is running at a crawl. So I assume the pre-orders are flooding in, I may have to reserve my excitement until I have something a bit more concrete.

I hope they make fucking loads of them, so the scalpers end up with a load of worthless stock on their hands

Of course they won't, but I can dream

You can buy a second hand Wii for 20, soft-mod it and load up around a thousand SNES games onto an SD card. Or just play them all on a laptop.

Much as I'd like one of these, I've got most of the ones I'd want on the Wii U VC and the rest, I can just boot into the soft-modded Wii on the Wii U. The 8BitDo controllers work with them too.

At this stage, it'd just be an ornament. Which is fair enough, it does look great.

edit: Or what Kalel said. :)

It is just emulation btw. There was that scandal with the NES one that Nintendo had downloaded all the ROMS of Bitorrent.

Too lazy to even spell 'emphasise' properly.
I think we get the picture.

Its a well curated selection of games, but im under no illusions that this isnt going to be another piece of plastic shit under the telly.

But, yes, I've actually got all of the games sat in my pocket on my phones SNES emulator but, obviously, emulator chat is utterly redundant when it comes to something like this.

Starfox 2 sounds pretty interesting from an historical perspective and as a curiosity, but after looking at footage of Starfox running at less than 10fps and assuming it wouldn't be much better, I'm not sure I would find it playable

    I've pre ordered.
Hmm, should I save it and give it to the boy for Christmas...

If it's a gold version of Starfox 2 without the bugs and unfinished shiz, that'll be impressive. I look forward to it being on rom sites within a day on the crappy little piece of plastics release.

    Ordered :)
Hope the controller cables are longer than NES mini. Shame it's only 21 games, Megadrive one has 80 games.

I wasn't debating the quality of the games at all. The games do look great.

But realistically a console specifically for playing those 21 old games under my telly taking up ANOTHER power plug AND another HDMI slot on the telly... really don't need it and once the novelty has worn off I imagine most folks will also see it gathering dust.

Those Megadrive ones are pants, though, no only because the emulation is terrible, but because a huge chunk of the games are the sort you'd find on dodgy 50-in-1 carts on the Sunday Market.

The thing that appeals to me most about this is the authentic controllers. SNES emulation has been perfect for years, now, but playing on a 360 joypad or one of those cheap shitty USB SNES pads never quite felt right.

I assume the games will be NTSC at 60hz?

    Sigh.
5 feet cord, better but nowhere near long enough for sofa playing.
I suppose I can plug it in to my iMac...

Annoying... I was on my bike in the period between its announcement and pre-orders. And now Smyths, Game and Amazon appear to have stopped taking orders or just broken. Sigh.

Looks like I missed the boat on pre-orders. Was reading my daughter a bedtime story. Serves me right for being nice.

Yoshi's Island has never been released on any Virtual Console. Only way to play it legally is this or an original SNES plus cartridge.
